"I'd go with a different vendor."2.0 starson by saltyfoam
Pros: Good hardware.
Cons: Included software that doesn't work (WD backup still going after two days, some applications don't even run).
Advertised features that don't work (iTunes server).
Lack of support (more than two years to fix problems with backup software).
Summary: I've had the MyBookLive 3 TB model for 4 days now. I run both Mac and Windows 7 laptops. Setting up the Mac was fairly painless, using the Time Machine software that came with my Mac. Under Windows the experience was much less pleasant. Since I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium there isn't the option to use the Windows backup software so I had to setup the Western Digital software. That software is flakey to say the least. I had to all technical support twice in order to get the various WD applications running, with one of them not running at all with the tech person telling me to use the Web based interface instead. Also, when I asked about the iTunes server support that is advertised on the product I'm told it rarely works since they can't keep up with the changes Apple makes to the iTunes client. False advertising in my view. In the end I get the WD backup software running and it starts backing up. Four days later it's still running, having not yet completed the backup!!! I check the WD forums and see that this problem has been reported MANY times and has been an ongoing problem for at least TWO YEARS. Not what I'd call good customer support. I'm now looking into upgrading my version of Windows so I can use the built-in backup software.
