AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 Special Report: Connection gone after waking from sleep

2 min read

Some users are reporting issues automatically reconnecting to wireless networks when waking their machines from sleep after applying AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001.

For many, eleting potentially corrupt .plist files (as described in our Wireless troubleshooting tutorial) -- has been successful in resolving this issue.

The files to be deleted are located in the ~/Library/Preferences/ directory (this is the Library directory within your User folder), and are as follows:

  • com.apple.internetconfig.plist
  • com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
  • com.apple.internetconnect.plist

Reader reports

One reader writes:

"After applying the Airport Extreme Update 2007-001, my Airport Extreme was shutting down every time my Aluminum PowerBook G4 went to sleep. It was very frustrating, but I thought it might have been a "security feature" in the new update. Then I found your wireless troubleshooting tutorial and following directions in the "Delete specific .plist files" section did the trick.

MacFixIt reader Bob writes:

"I installed this update on my MacBook Core 2 Duo yesterday. Since then, when my MacBook sleeps for an extended period, it will not reconnect to the wireless network. In fact, it doesn't even see any wireless networks. iStumbler does not see any networks either. If I reboot, everything is fine, until sleep. Even logging out and logging back in does not reconnect me."

Conversely, some users are reporting that problems reconnecting to networks after waking from sleep are resolved by this update.

MacFixIt reader Scott Heng writes:

"I'd just like to tell you guys that this update has apparently fixed the Airport connection drop outs when a MacBook is waken from sleep or rebooted. I've been having this problem for 3 months but it only happened at my university campus mainly because my school uses Symbol Technologies (now Motorola) whereas at home I use the more popular Linksys (Cisco). At school, however, they did have only one access point made by Cisco and that was the only one that function properly (before the update)."
