AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 Special Report: Does not enable 802.11n functionality, but is required for 802.11n enabler
Despite some confusing reports to the contrary, we have confirmed that the AirPort Extreme update 2007-001 does not enable 802.11n wireless connectivity on Macs with appropriate hardware (most Core 2 Duo and Xeon-based models).
Instead, the update offers a security refinement (noted yesterday) and several bug fixes for wireless connectivity issues.
802.11n functionality is enabled by a US$1.99 download, or with purchase of a AirPort Extreme 802.11n (2nd gen.).
However, AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 is a prerequisite for installation of the 802.11n enabler.Index:
- Release Notes: Not just a security update
- Loss of Internet connectivity (can connect to router, but no Internet access)
- Internet Connect application broken
- Does not enable 802.11n functionality, but is required for 802.11n enabler
- Dropouts (lapses in connectivity), fixes
- Connection gone after waking from sleep
- Cannot connect to wireless router/AirPort Base station
- AirPort card not recognized
- Uninstalling (getting the update off your Mac)
