AsantéPrint and AsantéTalk problems, especially with the iMac

In the last few days, we have received a flurry of email about Asanté products, mostly when used with an iMac. Here are the highlights:

AsantéTalk and HP printers Matthew Presley had a similar problem with AsantéTalk, but it did not involve an iMac. Matthew was using a Power Mac 8500. He writes: "When I attached AsantéTalk to my HP DeskWriter 600 via the provided LocalTalk cable, the power light on the printer started to blink rapidly and the Mac couldn't find the Printer in Chooser. However, when I attached my PowerBook 145 to AsantéTalk via the cable, file sharing worked fine between the 145 and 8500." Matthew next tried using a PhoneNet cable, rather than the provided LocalTalk cable. This worked - even for the HP printer. Later in the day, he received the following confirming note from Asanté: "The is most likely a problem with HP printers. HP printers will not work with the serial cable that ships with the AsantéTalk. They only work when used with PhoneNet type LocalTalk connectors."
