Here's one more follow-up to the problem where you need to click the mouse to get a download to progress. For those that find that Word 98 is the main culprit (as was suggested), Nils Holmlov writes: "If you download something at the same time that Word is saving to a temporary file, Word starts eating cycles. The problem goes away if you close the open Word document. You don't have to quit any applications."
