Display Library: get rid of it in most cases

CNET staff
Last time, we reported that deleting a file called Display Library would remedy problems seen after installing Apple Displays Software 1.7.1. Several readers confirmed this and added that the file is a more general nuisance.

For example, Robert Hammen wrote: "We were having tons of crashing problems with our prepress workstations (Newer G3-upgraded 85/95/9600's) until we disabled this extension. We haven't seen any anomalies since we disabled it."

Charles Nancarrow adds: "Display Library causes many problems. It is most often version 1b1 and is installed by some older applications. Along with this is also another item called Display Enabler. Not the latest 2.4.1 version, but a much earlier version. They are often installed together. Other symptoms of these items being installed are frequent 'AppleVision could not communicate with existing component' errors and other AppleVision related errors."

[Note: We posted a trio items on Display Library last May, including one that confirms that Photoshop 5.0 installs both Display Enabler 2.0.2 and Display Library 1.0b1. In general, it was recommended to delete both files.]
