Reports are pouring in from readers who continue to experience significant issues under iWeb 2.0.1 that were also existent under iWeb 2.0. Apple's release notes state that version 2.0.1 "addresses issues with upgrading and publishing iWeb 1.x websites," but users continue to experience significant difficulty, losing content from previously published sites and other abnormalities.

Missing site elements We previously reported that the most dire issue users are experiencing after updating to iWeb '08 (2.0.1) is the sudden disappearance of various site elements, particularly photo galleries. Many users have reported that entire swaths of their sites are completely missing after launching the update and attempting to work with their pre-existing site(s) file.

Unfortunately, these issues are not resolved for a number of readers under iWeb 2.0.1.

One reader writes:

"The update did NOT fix any of the issues previously experienced (opening an iWeb 1 site in iWeb 2 still causes problems such as content loss and error messages while publishing)."

MacFixIt reader Ingo adds:

"It changes precisely NONE of the problems with loosing site elements, update iWeb file with oder templates etc. I had to write my website www.kg-pharma.de (online still iWeb 06 version) completely new in iWeb 08, using an original template. Still same problems, it looses, PNG, JPG, Quicktime elements. How often I would copy them in again, they would disappear after a few times opening and closing, leaving behind a very frustrated user."

Even worse, some users are reporting that sites created in iWeb 2.0 are now losing data and elements when opened with iWeb 2.0.1. Mike Mills writes:

"Web 2.0.1 only made matters worse for me. When I opened a site I had worked on all of yesterday in 2.0.0, there were many missing picture elements that were present yesterday. Also, the update reportedly does nothing to fix the missing navigation bar in Internet Explorer browsers."

As a reminder, to avoid data loss, make a copy of your domain folder -- located in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain -- before attempting to update to or use iWeb 2.0 or 2.0.1. The program may delete or make inoperable parts of your stored Web site(s). Saving this file can mean the difference between losing or maintaining your current site data.

Publishing problems Meanwhile, users are reporting problems with publishing sites that are either new to iWeb 2.0.1 or lingering from iWeb 2.0.

MacFixIt reader Roddy writes:

"The update still does not address the issue where the converted page background is somewhat short of the top of the page in the browser window and the navigation menu is magnified by about 2x and jumps around when the cursor is run over it."

Another reader adds:

"I lost most of my 30 page site after installing iWeb '08. I have since painstakingly rebuilt the site from scratch. However I have been totally unable to actually publish the site, even with the 2.0.1 patch yesterday. I get the message that "Publishing will now continue in the background" - so the server connection obviously is working - however the progress bar hangs indefinitely. Fortunately my iWeb 07 site is still functioning on the .Mac server."

Also, it looks like iWeb consistently fails to publish a site containing a blog if there is no Internet connection. It always fails with an "unknown error". All pages after that point fail to be published. Publishing succeeds only if the server configuration.apple.com can be reached.
