Mac OS X 10.5.x Special Report: Finder display issues

CNET staff

The Finder in Leopard is evincing a variety of drawing glitches.

A fairly common complaint is that the sidebar in a Finder window will show two copies of the same disk. Here's one report:

In the sidebar of a finder window a duplication occurs of one of my internal disks. Disk Dual G5 Leopard is my boot disk. Disk Dual G5 Main is a Tiger disk. The latter disk, and no others, will, after being up for a while, show up twice in the sidebar.

And another:

After successfully doing a "back-up now" [with Time Machine], I eject the external HD, and get a double icon of the internal HD [in the sidebar].

The same issue appears from time to time over at Apple discussions (such as this post).

Another issue is that icons of some files in the Desktop folder will fail to be drawn on the actual desktop. A reader who sent in a screen shot suggests:

It appears to have something to do with my view option settings, specifically "show item info".

(In other words, when "show item info" is checked, some icons will fail to appear on the desktop.)
