MacBook Pro battery replacement: Systems running cooler after

CNET staff

Several MacBook Pro owners are reporting that their systems are running significantly cooler (from a tactile perspective) after having their batteries replaced under Apple's "Battery Exchange" program.

MacFixIt reader Bob Guthrie writes:

"The battery in my MacBook Pro 15" seemed to work well, but ran hot, so that the wrist rest above it on the left side became almost too hot to rest a wrist. I was not too concerned, but wondered about it.

"My serial number fit within Apple's recall and they sent a prompt replacement.

"Now the computer runs cool in the spot where it was hot before."

In recent days, we reported that Apple batteries may have been produced by the same manufacturer that provided batteries for Dell -- currently involved in a massive recall.

We've also reported extensively on an issue where some MacBook Pro batteries fail to function properly, overheat and swell.

We also noted several cooling solutions as part of our MacBook Pro special report.
