MacLinkPlus expired message glitch in Mac OS 8: and a work-around

CNET staff
A couple of readers reported that when trying to use the version of MacLinkPlus that was included on the Mac OS 8 CD, they would get an error message that said: "MacLinkPlus has expired." This is a known issue (dating back to August), as documented on the DataViz web site. Reader Jeff contacted DataViz about this. He writes that they gave him a new registration number and an activation number. "They told me to reinstall with DataViz' Installer on the OS 8.0 CD, rather than using Apple's Installer, and to use the newly supplied Registration and Activation numbers. They said that the problem was due to 'the way Apple placed MacLink Plus on the OS 8 CD.'"

Another reader echoed this solution, but without needing new registration and/or activation numbers: "The work-around is to locate the MacLinkPlus folder in the Software Installers folder and launch the Installer that is within that folder."

DataViz confirms that no numbers are needed. The specified reinstall is all that you need to do to solve this glitch.
