Microsoft 4.51 name game: a final follow-up

CNET staff
A final note for now about the version number oddities with Internet Explorer 4.51 (see previous item). Although this may seem a trivial issue, its relevance goes to determining whether or not you really successfully installed the update. In any case, two messages received yesterday suggest there may be a bit of magic at work here:
I too was baffled by the comments from Microsoft since I did not see anything that said 4.51 anywhere I looked. So I downloaded the update again yesterday. Guess what. Now it says 4.51 where they say it should. And it also says it in the About Box. [Jerome Vitner]

Shortly after doing the "upgrade" of IE 4.5 to 4.51 I opened the "About..." box and noticed that the version number was still 4.5. Today, I opened the box and the version number is 4.51! [Steven Bomba]
