Norton AntiVirus and Olympus MO cartridges: a driver conflict

Norton AntiVirus and Olympus MO cartridges: a driver conflict

CNET staff
Theo Maschas writes that Norton AntiVirus did not recognize his Olympus SYS.230 MO cartridges. When he inserted one, the cartridge mounted as if NAV were not present; no scanning took place. He also found that if NAV is active and he mounts one of these MO cartridges while File Sharing is also active - and the cartridge contained a shared folder - the Mac freezes. A force quit of "File Sharing Extension" is needed to recover.

Symantec suggested dumping the driver that came with the Olympus and trying a third party driver instead. He tried HDT ToolKit 2.0.6 and all the problems went away. Actually, Theo found that it was sufficient to simply remove the FormatterOne Init extension (supplied with the Olympus SYS.230 drive) and replace it with the FWB Tools PE extension. Replacing the driver was not required.
