Excel chart Type 2 error Although I suspect this is an "old" bug probably reported somewhere before now, we received two emails yesterday both describing a bug in Excel 98 affecting at least some Mac models (G3 Power Macs, G3 PowerBooks, iBooks, Power Mac 7600): When you select to create and save a custom chart (by selecting "User Defined" in the "Custom Types" tab dialog of the Chart Type window), you will get a Type 2 error.

Sympatico and multiple users on the same modem A reader discovered that the Sympatico Access Manager software (at least the beta version for Mac OS 9) allows multiple users to connect at the same time on a network. "The modem can be plugged into the uplink port of a network hub and Access Manager can be installed on each of the computers. Unlike Sympatico's dial-up, you are not kicked off for using the same account. Instead, each computer is assigned it's own unique IP address."

Update: Yves Dussault replies: "This is not a feature of Access Manager. The Nortel ADSL modem supports 2 connections out of the box (as stated in the documentation) even if Sympatico will not provide technical support for this. This works with version Access Manager 1.05 as well as the previous DHCP connection method."

Startup Screens are back Eric Woehler found that, after updating to Mac OS 9, he could use his custom startup screens again. "No more multiple screen refreshes during start up. Startup screen comes up and stays there during entire startup."
