OS X 10.3 Finder scrolling bug Reader Daryn Edwards reports an issue when using a mouse/trackball scrollwheel to scroll Finder windows that only manifests when the sidebar is hidden in list view:
"I?ve found what seems to be a bug in using the scrolling function of the mouse wheel in certain windows when in the list view. When in list view and having your mouse cursor over the file/folder/app names the window will not scroll. If you move the cursor to the right of the file name it will [scroll] -- you don?t even have to go to the next sorting column (date modified, size, etc.) -- but over the actual names it will not scroll. It seems when you have the sidebar open it works but if you close/collapse the side bar it doesn?t work. I?ve confirmed this on 3 different machines running 10.3.5, one of the three has the Logitech control center the other two do not but all machines have Logitech mice (Logitech dual optical, mx500, and wheel mouse) One machine is a Graphite G4 533, and the other two are MDD 1Ghz G4."
Daryn later reported that he's also experiencing this problem on a Power Mac G5 running 10.3.4 using a Kensington mouse.
We've since tested this issue on our own machines here at MacFixIt and confirmed that it only happens in list view with the sidebar hidden. More specifically, it only occurs when the sidebar is initially visible, but then hidden -- the "unscrollable" portion of the window resides in the area formerly occupied by the sidebar.
