QuickTime 5.0.1 is out; new QuickTopic started

CNET staff
QuickTime 5.0.1 is out. A note on VersionTracker advises: "QT 5.0.1 is out if you use the 4.x updater. Using the 5.0 Preview 3 updater will not show a new version available. If you have Preview 3 then download the QT 4.1.2 installer and ignore warning you have a newer version installed." MacFixIt readers confirm this. Also be sure to check TIL article #31335 (QuickTime 5: Enabling Pro Features) regarding upgrading to the Pro version.

New QuickTopic opened We have started a new QuickTime 5.0.1 QuickTopic Forum for your comments and reports.

Here is some initial reader feedback.

Jolyon Druce writes: "So far no problems, all components are new and updated. If you really want to see QuickTime in its best form, put in a VCD. Drag the .dat file across the QuickTime Player and ENJOY. It looks almost as good as a DVD. The player also gave chapter selection on some of the VCD's I put in. And this was on an old 6400 with a Sonnet G3 card. The Sorenson capture on my ATI card was great also."

Jacob Rath adds: "The Dreamweaver gif problem and Photoshop texturizer filter problems appear fixed."

Update: According to postings in the QuickTopic, Apple may have temporarily pulled the update. If so, expect it back soon. Alternatively, based on other postings, it just may be that it takes more work than usual to figure out how to get the update to download.
