Troubleshooting Mac OS X 10.2.4: Dial-up problems and old .kext files

CNET staff

Apparently, some readers had problems with yesterday's reported package solution to dial-up reliability problems under Mac OS X 10.2.4.

The package was intended to replace six files found in the directory /System/Library/Extensions, with older versions:

  1. InternalModemSupport.kext
  2. InternalUSBModem
  3. PPP.kext
  4. PPPoE.ppp
  5. PPPSerial.ppp
  6. PPTP.ppp

If you are having dial-up problems, try replacing these six files with those contained on a Mac OS X 10.2.3 installation. Alternatively, you can use the shareware utility Pacifist to extract the files from an older Mac OS X updater or your original Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2) CD.
