QuickTime 4.0.3 upgrade error: a work-around Several readers report that, after upgrading to QuickTime 4.0.3, they started getting an error that read: "Some of your QuickTime software failed to load because it is out of date. You can fix this by updating to the latest version. Do it now?" Even if you click "Do it now?," the error returned at the next startup. Mauro Santos eliminated the message by installing a clean copy of an older version of QuickTime 4.0.x, restarting, and then doing the online upgrade.

QuickTime upgrade error redux Several readers report that they are unable to download QuickTime 4.0.3, getting a message such as "an error occurred trying to download the file VISEData." We have reported on this before with earlier versions of QuickTime (see Troubleshooting QuickTime 4.0). There is also a TIL article on the subject (#60388). Several work-arounds are suggested. Especially note: "In some cases the QuickTime Installer may try to use a proxy server. If you aren't behind a firewall and don't need to use a proxy server, make sure the checkbox labeled 'Use Web Proxy' is not checked."

QuickTime Plugin fix Having problems using the QuickTime 4.x plugin with Netscape browsers. A thread on Apple's Tech Exchange describes what to do. Essentially, you need to adjust Netscape's Preferences to list QuickTime as the Helper application. However, this did not work for MacFixIt reader Peter B. He found that the Type code of the QuickTime plugin did not match the code of his other plug-ins (NSPL). He used Snitch to change the code for the QuickTime plugin. Finally, everything started to work.
