"Pricey and antiquated for what you get."

    Pros: 30 day trial.

Cons: After considerable searching, I was unable to setup gmail's outgoing mail server with it. I have successfully set that up with Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Entourage, Outlook 03,07, and MS Mail. This incompatibility is unacceptable.

Summary: I installed Office X4 after having a freak issue with Office 2007. I had some sort of corruption in my registry or something. Long story longer, I had high expecgtations for WordPerfect Office X4. I was really dissapointed. Once I resolved the issue and started using Office 2007 again I fent that it was much better.

Outlook 2007 is second to none. There are a bazillion Windows Mobile phones that sync up with outlook with little effort. I can't even check my e-mail on my computer with Corel's mail program.

Also, a little known "secret" (as far as reviewers are concerned) is that you can change the theme in MS Office 2007 to black, and the black theme is really good looking. X4 looks terribly outdated, the software is remedial, and the price is as high or higher than Office 2007.

I think they would do well to release their software on Linux and maybe even on Apple computers. Right now, this suite is competing out of it's league. Linux users would probably welcome X4 as an upgrade from openOffice, but compared to MS Office it's junk.

It does kind of have a professional appeal to it though, and it probably handles the most file type compatibiilty of any word processor out there.

In my experience, people who prefer Word over WordPerfect have limited requirements for a word processor. WordPerfect is not just a great word processor. It can satisfy the desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and database demands of most people, all in one inexpensive package. Microsoft's model requires that you buy separate pieces of software for each function, none of which are the best product on the market in their category. The price for Microsoft Office is FAR MORE EXPENSIVE than WordPerfect X4. Corel provides numerous tools to learn WordPerfect thoroughly, not just skin deep as most Word users function. WordPerfect has always had the most logical locations for its features. I also use Word, but only when I have to. Access to features is often totally illogical, because WordPerfect had them first. I didn't install all the products that came with X4 (email, for one), but what I did install works perfectly. I feel sorry for people who are stuck inside the box with Microsoft Office.
