Know it's 2007 but I had to put in my two cents worth...G_Talk is IT!!!
Pros: Nice & Light, doesn't hog system resources and the audio is clear as crystal
Cons: None...because honestly I don't miss any of the bells and whistles you get with other IM's
The audio was awesome...my wife told me she had to turned down the speakers at home because I came through really loud.....For video I downloaded a plug-in........
Think this is going to rule the IM world

Nice Clean Program
Pros: Good Audio Quality, Nice Customizeable chat features, clean.
Cons: No Major Flaws
Voice quality was not that good when I was talking to my aunt..but note that she was using a wireless Sprint DSL access card, and she wasn't close to the tower..so that's why it wasn't good..otherwise it's really clear!
Chat features are nice, you can choose a picture that represents you, or upload one of yourself..etc...like a buddy icon.
Overall, nice program, clean, no ads, chat with people you know from Gmail.

No one uses it
Pros: Made by Google
Cons: No one uses it
There is no one on it and there is no way to meet new people. Google should make a myspace to help it.

It's grrrrreeeeaaatttt
Pros: What its lacking: Emoticons, Ads, nudges, use by other users outside of gmail and custom nickname.
Cons: Other Lackage: Text to phone, it would be cool to see integration with more google products besides Google desktop 2 and Gmail.
Nudge's or buzz... alright why the heck would someone build these into an instant messenger... if the person does not hear your beep they couldnt care half as they need to to answer you. Just beep again if its that important they'll check eventually. I've spilt a drink on me because the sound of a nudge scared me at one in the morning. and wow! no one else outside gmail can use it? who cares! i love that because Gmail is perdy much for nerds! its greatness because i dont get bombarded with instant messages when i sign in... i can sign in and get what i needed to do done on my comp without being bothered by 10 people. the custom name i can also live without... its actually better... none of the "who is this?" crap when someone changes their name and you dont recognise them. and it takes up less space in the window...
speaking of window who decided that the window has to be 1/4 the size of your monitor? i love the fact that a gmail window is about a quorter size of the competitors messaging windows... thats about 1/16 the size of your monitor... you can have 16 convos and see them all without resizing... you could have 4 -5 of the others and you may have to resize and rearrange to see them all!!
While im at it who really needs a display picture window like in msn? you know whats in most of them? not a picture of themselves. wahat a waste of space... it even takes up a bit of space when it is minimized. What a waste. Gah... I'm enjoying my rant.
Another thing: Google is getting critisized by tech reporters for being *Gmail Only* well i think they ahve it all wrong. Because of the utilization of Jabber, GT has become more compatable with more chatting platforms than any of the others... i can talk to someone on ichat while they use ichat and not some windows emulated program running on their mac. It's great because people can choose their own platform to talk on and connect to other platforms.
No voip? who cares if you cant call a phone through your text chat service. It's primarily text chat! you want something that calls a phone get skype! or here's a whacky idea... PICK UP A PHONE!!! wow.. that never came to mind eh? you are going to pay either way so just pick up a phone like an normal person.
Alright I have been ranting for a while about whats so great about Google talk i want to get into whats wrong with it. And I only find a few small things wrong with it. Lack of file transfer, lack of computer to mobile communication and i wouldnt mind some form of integration with Picassa or hello or both. They would be a great service all bundled up into one. It would be great if a friend could come back from a vacation and just redirect you to their picasa or something without having to send you a million photos. That's all for my review!

Google Talk, the alternative to bloated crap.
Pros: Fast, Simple, Easy to use, Gmail integration, WORKING VoIP, Nice Resizing.
Cons: Lack of annoying teenager-pleasing features, 'Buzz' 'Nudge' 'Winks' 'Audibles' not included, No customization yet.
I don't like the emotes on the messengers, AIMs are pretty much pre-millenium, Yahoo has a few, but the constant repeat is annoying, MSNs are without soul. So I don't feel that as something Google Talk lacks, I hope they don't expand in cross-messaging, everything produced by that end has been buggy, bogged down crap.
I don't know anyone who doesn't have a Gmail, so claiming it limited by invites is probably the largest amount of horse**** I've ever seen Cnet print. The only people I can think of that do NOT have a Gmail believe Google to be evil, so that's absolute nonsense, limited.
