Very pooor product

Pros: Good voice quality

Cons: Everything else except for voice quality

Review: Having used IM client for almost last 10 years gtalk seems very primitive even with the latest versions. Basic things like video chat etc...are missing....Who would need gtalk if you have Yahoo!, MSN, Skype etc....they have all the features and are very stable. The most annoying part is very high CPU utilization. If you have 4-5 chat windows open than you are almost screwed. I personally thinks it is much hyped like all products offered by google. There is no substance.

Know it's 2007 but I had to put in my two cents worth...G_Talk is IT!!!

Pros: Nice & Light, doesn't hog system resources and the audio is clear as crystal

Cons: None...because honestly I don't miss any of the bells and whistles you get with other IM's

Review: I was away from the family for a extended period on a system implementation and was using a combination of Yahoo & Windows Messenger to keep in touch....but Windows Messenger started playing the fool....So I downloaded Google Talk and started using it......

The audio was awesome...my wife told me she had to turned down the speakers at home because I came through really loud.....For video I downloaded a plug-in........

Think this is going to rule the IM world

Nice Clean Program

Pros: Good Audio Quality, Nice Customizeable chat features, clean.

Cons: No Major Flaws

Review: I really like this software. Small file size, and they just updated it! Now you can send files and leave voicemail messages if a friend is not available. It will also tell you if you have a new Gmail Message..

Voice quality was not that good when I was talking to my aunt..but note that she was using a wireless Sprint DSL access card, and she wasn't close to the tower..so that's why it wasn't good..otherwise it's really clear!

Chat features are nice, you can choose a picture that represents you, or upload one of yourself..etc...like a buddy icon.

Overall, nice program, clean, no ads, chat with people you know from Gmail.

Google scores on pure simplicity again

Pros: Good Voice Quality

Cons: Lacking in additional features (emoticons etc.)

Review: Google talk beta carries the traditional simplicity of google. Easy to use and understand. No restrictions on the size of file being transferred is a very good feature. Although it currently lacks the additional features offered by its competitors.Trust google to load this with all possible features and more in the near future.

No one uses it

Pros: Made by Google

Cons: No one uses it

Review: How can someone have an Instant Messenger service that no one is on?
Updated
There is no one on it and there is no way to meet new people. Google should make a myspace to help it.

Simple but Good!

Pros: Interface is nice, Integrates with Gmail

Cons: Majority of users use AIM, must invite users

Review: Google Talk is fun and easy to use. The interface is simple but that is a good thing when you are just trying to talk to other people. I only do not like the fact that you have to invite other users to talk to them and Google Talk has no compatibility with AIM.

Simply Wonderful

Pros: Quick start-up, amazing sound quality, available on Gmail.

Cons: Emotions can be better and no video.

Review: WOW! This has to be one of the best things Google has ever launched. The start-up time is unbelievable. In literally one second, it's open. Also the sound quality is outstanding. I've tried many IM's and this must have one of the best, if not best, audio quality. Google Talk has all these great features, but it has two major negatives. One is that there is no video. Also, they have to work on emotions. There are still other features this IM lacks that you can find on Yahoo! and MSN, but it's still amazing. When you download it, you may feel bad about no video but it'll satisfy you if you compare audio and start-up to other IM's.

Breath of fresh air...

Pros: Simple interface, exceptional audio

Cons: Chat history is stored by default

Review: I'm in Greece. While speaking with a friend on the east coast, I compared the quality of a voice chat on Google Talk with Yahoo! Messenger's "New" PC to PC chat feature. There is no comparison here... Google is superbly above Yahoo! and even better than my phone service. The audio is FM radio quality. Downside - the program defaults to storing your chat history. Check the "Privacy" option under "Settings" to change this. If they decide to add more features to Talk - they should keep it close to what they have now - a slimmed down tool to IM/chat with friends. If Yahoo is the SUV of IM'ing - Google is the Little Duece Coupe!

Clearest audio on the Internet.

Pros: Easy set-up and terrific interface. Voice meter shows voice of both listener and speaker. I like that.

Cons: no files can be trransferred. No exchange of photos

Review: This is the answer to the high cost of long distance land line calling. I have tried it a few times and the quality is top rate for clarity of sound, no interferences, no static. What's more, the program is free, like other Google offerings. All you need buy is a $10 mike. The best $10 I ever spent.

It's grrrrreeeeaaatttt

Pros: What its lacking: Emoticons, Ads, nudges, use by other users outside of gmail and custom nickname.

Cons: Other Lackage: Text to phone, it would be cool to see integration with more google products besides Google desktop 2 and Gmail.

Review: What makes it soooo great? The fact that it's lacking all that stuff. Emoticons? As in those colourful things ment to show emotions but turned into colourful things that just annoy people? or ads. Even MSN has adds... there is one integrated into the bottom of every chat window that you barely notice but cant get rid of if you are nitpicky like me. There is also an add at the bottom of msn.
Nudge's or buzz... alright why the heck would someone build these into an instant messenger... if the person does not hear your beep they couldnt care half as they need to to answer you. Just beep again if its that important they'll check eventually. I've spilt a drink on me because the sound of a nudge scared me at one in the morning. and wow! no one else outside gmail can use it? who cares! i love that because Gmail is perdy much for nerds! its greatness because i dont get bombarded with instant messages when i sign in... i can sign in and get what i needed to do done on my comp without being bothered by 10 people. the custom name i can also live without... its actually better... none of the "who is this?" crap when someone changes their name and you dont recognise them. and it takes up less space in the window...

speaking of window who decided that the window has to be 1/4 the size of your monitor? i love the fact that a gmail window is about a quorter size of the competitors messaging windows... thats about 1/16 the size of your monitor... you can have 16 convos and see them all without resizing... you could have 4 -5 of the others and you may have to resize and rearrange to see them all!!

While im at it who really needs a display picture window like in msn? you know whats in most of them? not a picture of themselves. wahat a waste of space... it even takes up a bit of space when it is minimized. What a waste. Gah... I'm enjoying my rant.

Another thing: Google is getting critisized by tech reporters for being *Gmail Only* well i think they ahve it all wrong. Because of the utilization of Jabber, GT has become more compatable with more chatting platforms than any of the others... i can talk to someone on ichat while they use ichat and not some windows emulated program running on their mac. It's great because people can choose their own platform to talk on and connect to other platforms.

No voip? who cares if you cant call a phone through your text chat service. It's primarily text chat! you want something that calls a phone get skype! or here's a whacky idea... PICK UP A PHONE!!! wow.. that never came to mind eh? you are going to pay either way so just pick up a phone like an normal person.

Alright I have been ranting for a while about whats so great about Google talk i want to get into whats wrong with it. And I only find a few small things wrong with it. Lack of file transfer, lack of computer to mobile communication and i wouldnt mind some form of integration with Picassa or hello or both. They would be a great service all bundled up into one. It would be great if a friend could come back from a vacation and just redirect you to their picasa or something without having to send you a million photos. That's all for my review!

Google Talk, the alternative to bloated crap.

Pros: Fast, Simple, Easy to use, Gmail integration, WORKING VoIP, Nice Resizing.

Cons: Lack of annoying teenager-pleasing features, 'Buzz' 'Nudge' 'Winks' 'Audibles' not included, No customization yet.

Review: Exactly the review you'd expect from Cnet, blah, well, it's sleek, smooth, fast, and easy to use, and I can't say that about Yahoo or AIM, even MSN sometimes, they're bloated with so much crap designed so buddies can annoy each other that they lose focus on improving the actual messenger, stopping it from crashing, making it function. They seem to change features enough to screw up anything Cerulean attempts though.

I don't like the emotes on the messengers, AIMs are pretty much pre-millenium, Yahoo has a few, but the constant repeat is annoying, MSNs are without soul. So I don't feel that as something Google Talk lacks, I hope they don't expand in cross-messaging, everything produced by that end has been buggy, bogged down crap.
Updated
I don't know anyone who doesn't have a Gmail, so claiming it limited by invites is probably the largest amount of horse**** I've ever seen Cnet print. The only people I can think of that do NOT have a Gmail believe Google to be evil, so that's absolute nonsense, limited.
