"doesn't MS have enough to do?"
Pros: WMV without transcoding?
Cons: anything you can do I can do too
Summary: I live in a rural town; there's this guy who owns the hardware store... he's well off but creates a load of bad feelings because whenever someone else starts a new business that seems to be succeeding, he copies it and 'horns in'. Doesn't matter what- storage units, used car lots, neon signs, landscaping; with or without any aptitude for it he becomes a competitor.
MS needs to get ahead of the curve and innovate instead of duplicate- this is reminiscent of the browser move, and more recently One Care... sure to reinforce the impression of MS's monopolistic tendencies.
