"enjoyed it so far, but" on by johnboy7514

    Pros: nice interface, fairly fast

Cons: sometimes crashes; doesn't pick up spam folder from gmail very well

Summary: I have my hotmail, gmail, and roadrunner email accounts in the live apps.
I tested the app by emailing myself from and to all 3 accounts, and all worked fine.
I was awaiting a job offer via gmail and it never came. I finally went to actual gmail just to make sure, and lo and behold the offer had been sitting there for 3 days in the spam folder.
Within live mail there is a folder marked "junk" for gmail, but the offer was never there.
So, overall, it's a nice interface and good to have all accounts right there, but I'm kind of scratching my head wondering why it didn't pick up my offer letter.

"Too slow, CPU and disk access HOG!" on by wmt2

Pros: Accesses easily Hotmail and Gmail as well as POP3.

Cons: Slows down the computer terribly. Makes all kinds of "Recovery" folders for nothing. Hogs CPU use (up to 100%); makes constant hits to the HD and Internet even when not downloading messages.

Summary: Overall, this has a nice look and feel and integrates well with some other useful programmes. It also has a nice selection of language dictionaries (I write letters in four languages).
However, it is too CPU heavy. It is constantly making trips to the Net, even when it is not downloading files. CPU usage ranges from 86% to 100% and usually sits in the 93% range, even when it is just sitting idle. It is constantly going to the hard disk as it uses all the RAM and then looks to page to disk (computer has 512mb RAM).
This may be a nice toy for some, but I use my computer for business and can't afford to sit and wait two minutes or more while it decides whether or not to show me my mail.
Overall, it is not worth the price (free) or the time it takes to download it. I call it a dog and will be unloading it as soon as I find a suitable substitute (Thunderbird, The Bat!, or something).

"Usable, but too pushy with MS software" on by luckyk

    Pros: Outlook style interface

Cons: Opens IE for all email links

Summary: Can't seem to get any archived folders or email into it from MSN Premium. I hate IE. Any idea how to make Live Mail open my default browser (Safari) instead, would be appreciated. MS is going to eventually proprietary'ize themselves right out of business.

"What is Windows Live?" on by superguy

    Pros: Good Ole' Microsoft Look

Cons: All the apps are just blah although I like Messenger

Summary: Windows Live Apps feels like Microsoft just hoped that users with it preinstalled would use it. There's nothing particually that good about it.

Messenger is still my favorite IM client but none of my friends use it so I'm usually on AIM.

Photo Gallery Live is really just like the one included in Vista already with some integration to mediocre Live services. I really like the quick and easy picture preview from XP. I tried to use the import feature included in Phot Gallery but it keeps import all my photos over and over again.

Mail is a step up from Outlook Express but still really needs to be beefed up. Nice if you use Hotmail but I stopped using Hotmail when they started trying to charge $30 to access Hotmail Mobile.

One Care is a total scam and MS should be ashamed to charge extra for features that should be built into Windows.

Microsoft had tried to build Live around Live Search when they really should have built it around a Live Remote Desktop Access feature or just having your desktop sychronize to an online account. Imagine being able to get to your desktop from any browser. Yes, just like LogMeIn but as a native Windows feature that doesn't require a remote client like Terminal Services.
Anyway, as for Live.com, I just don't like it.
