"Tried and switched back... twice"
Pros: Pretty, more features
Cons: Slow as molasses
Summary: I also can't believe that CNet's reviewers repeatedly describe it as fast. By today's standards, this thing is painfully slow. When I switched back, Yahoo asked for my opinion. I complained about the speed; they claimed it was my system (I have no problem with other web-bases services). How will they improve it if they won't (or aren't allowed to) admit that there's a problem?

I have used Yahoo for years, but I must agree that it sucks since the new beta came out.

There is some truth to Yahoo's reply as to why it's slow for some: Yahoo Mail (beta) does a lot more processing on the user's computer than the previous version, and therefore is more dependent on the specifications of the user's machine than most other web pages.
They've improved performance a lot since they first released the beta months ago. But I still see a noticeable performance difference between my old machine (Athlon 1.4GHz 512MB) and my new one (Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB).
As more and more sites start using Web 2.0-type technology (AJAX, Flash, etc.) like Google Maps, Flickr, Yahoo Mail beta, GMail, etc. you'll start seeing more differences in performance arise out of users' machine specifications.
With my new machine, the performance of Yahoo Mail beta is finally adequate and comparable to the original Yahoo mail. With my old machine, I felt it was too slow compared to the old Yahoo mail.
