"4 Servers in one? Bad idea!" on

Summary: Am I the only one who see this to be a problem? First of all, why would you have your firewall/proxy server running any other services? Such as e-mail, database, login, etc... Isn't one of the number one rules in network security, "One server per service". I know not every company can afford to do things "the right way", but why would anyone in their right mind run one server with ISA, Exchange, and SQL. Did I mention that it is most likely going to be the login (domain) server as well, seems how Microsoft thought it would be funny to design Small Business Server so that it doesn't integrate with multiple domains, nor can it login to another domain. What is wrong with this software? EVERYTHING!!! Don't waste your time or money! In fact, I have copy sitting here on the shelf collecting dust if anyone would like to see for themselves how awful it really is.

"Very solid but resource intensive" on

Summary: The latest release of SBS adds the reliability of Win2K with excellent functionality. Only two complaints. The first is the extremely large box required to run it effectively. SBS was originally designed as a low cost solution for small businesses. Previous versions were often found running on a beefed up workstation (which worked very well). After working with SBS 2000 through beta and initial release I am not recommending running it on less then dual 800 mHz processors with a minimum of 512 RAM. In short it requires an actual server. This places additional costs on the solution that make it out of reach for many of its target customers. The second complaint is the poor licensing of SQL Server 2000 included. According to the licensing included it cannot be used to backend IIS applications (at least not for use on the Internet). For that you need a processor license. Ooops... SBS2K needs two processors which now means you need $10,000 worth of ADDITIONAL processor licenses. At that price it is not worth including.

"One problem with the "bottom line"" on

Summary: It states that this product is recommended for businesses with more than 50 employees...but that you will have to buy more licenses to do so... Obviously whoever reviewed this product doesn't know that it has a maximum of 50 attached computers. Do your own homework and find out the product...don't depend on this review.

"Worth the money ... but requires expertise and commitment" on

Summary: So far steering clear of Exchange 2000, we are currently using Win 2000, SQL Server 2000 and ISA Server 2000. All is working well and after the one-day-one-night-setup of ISA, we are proud of our new "new business" ;) SQL Server is a real beauty, by the way - an Access veteran's dream come true. The only disappointment was the lack of printed documentation and the complicated licensing model (at least here in Austria).

    "SMALL BUSINES SERVER 2000" on

Summary: Our Company recently switched to Small Business Server 2000 with 14 employees. We are very pleased with all the features and the server is packed with all of Microsofts latest software. You do have to have some understanding of networks and I suggest setting it up on a clean system outside of your current network before you disconnect your old system. Enjoy
