"Good - during the time of Broken Sword 2"

by nonerdspls on July 11, 2008

Pros: Could have been a good storyline

    Cons: Nothing original

Summary: This game should have been great but instead it is not a good game, to say the least.

The first thing that I encountered when opening the game is bad graphics, after a few minutes trying and internet browsing, I changed my refresh rate to 75Hz and the graphic problems disappeared (apart from some few lesser ones).

Then the game begun and things did not improve much.

    GAMEPLAY
First thing that struck me were the controls. Now people would ask, what could be so difficult or frustrating in moving and searching with a mouse. Same question I made to myself while playing this game. They did not leave it as just to click and a menu pops up like Broken Sword 3. No, with one you check on items and with the other you open a menu but the worst part is that sometimes, new options (like to go up closer to items like tables) are only accessible if you click the left button and sometimes only if you click the right button so you actually have to click with both buttons on everything to be sure that you did not forget anything.

At least the game offers a 'notepad' to tell you what you need to do or find.

    Controls : 3.5/10

    GRAPHICS
Well the introduction of the review told a lot about the graphics issues but on the other hand, the backgrounds and environments seem well designed apart from those little glitches here and there. Also the requirements for the game are rather low for todays' machines.

    GRAPHICS : 6.5/10

    SOUND

The sounds of the environment are not that bad and I really like the humor and sarcasm in the hero's words sometimes. What I really hate are the repetitive and (more often than not) useless statements that he gives after inspecting the same item over and over again. Its not just boring, after a long while it might actually turn you insane.

    SOUND : 4.5/10

    STORYLINE

I am an RPG type of guy so I wont beat around the bush, the storyline in this game sucks. Perhaps because I was expecting too much but still, its really went down bad with me. I cannot really elaborate without giving spoilers but lets me just say this, your idea of who the bad guy is is almost always right and things dont much up with each other (more often than not).

    STORYLINE : 3/10

CONCLUSION : Well I would not advise this game, not even to myself so as to fall asleep at night as it would guarantee nightmares.
