Pros The "Q" on the front of the box looks cool
Cons Physics - Game Play - Enviorment - Sound - system requierments - etc.
Summary This is "D00M 3 part 2" and nothing more. I bought it today, and it goes in the trash after this post. The physics here are not noteworthy. Half Life 2 set a new standerd in physics which id software missed. The enviroment is almost exactly the same as d00m 3...restrictive, dark, and well...the same. Sound effects are annoying. Too much squad interaction takes away from the "adventornous" of game. Game-play, like with D00M 3, is poor and crappy. The movment of your player is slow and akward. And how many "monsters popping out of the dark" do we need? I mean come on...
Basically, your looking at running down D00M like corridors shooting at an endless steam of "monsters popping out" and that's pretty much it. This is not the adventorous Quake 1 we all know and love. This has nothing to do with Quake 1. No Castles or knights or IMAGINATION. These n00bs at id software are in it for the money, and they are using the Quake name to push there product. This will ruin the Quake name, or what's left of it.
-System Requirment issue-
I have 1 GB of ram and a 256 DDR card and the new intel duel stage processer...my system is very high speed and it STILL was losing frame-rate!!!! You must be kidding me! Or mabey the program just isn't up to snuff and I THOUGHT I was losing frame-rate.
As I wrote in a reply on this thread, I bought "Half Life 2" last year and couldn't put it down. I locked myself in my house for 3 days, and didn't eat a lot and I played HL2 constantly. Why? Because HL2 dislayed a physics engine like none ever seen. The graphics were amazing. The game play was smooth and stunning. The enviorments were breathtaking...and the game was interesting. there were puzzles you had to figure out like how to get from here to there. There were also fun vehicles in the game. And sometimes you could sneak up or sneak past a combine soldier, or find a different path to get to a certain point. The game was not just "shoot em up"...it made you think. And when you woke up in the morning, you could not wait to start playing. That is the way a game should be.
The n00bs at id software completley miss the point. Mabey they should fire the creators of D00M 3 and Quake 4, and bring in some folks from "Valve"...people with REAL imagination. But if they do, they better not call it "Quake 5"...the Quake name is now ruined.
Out of 10 points I give this one point just because it has a cool looking "Q" and a nice shade of green on the front of the box. But that "Q" is the only thing this game has in common with the original Quake. Sad.
Pros doom 3 engine, good multi-player
Cons level designs seem dated
Summary This is supposed to be a review of the game, not how it runs on your computer. Your system is not that high end if you can't run the game properly or there is a problem with your hardware or your settings.
"Starts hard with constant action, then gets harder, then almost impossible to win."on by fossilsharkteeth
Pros Challenging, Filled to the max with action. Great graphics. Some mental puzzles. Always something to do. Almost unbeatable on the pc version.
Cons Almost unbeatable on the pc version. You have to die many times before you fiqure out why you are dying, then die many times before you can stop dying.
Summary It is great. I love it. If it got harder I could not play it. I spent a lot of time trying to get past the first 10 seconds of a door locked behind me.New scenes and new action for months for the part time gamer.
Always something new to fiqure out and defeat.
"Big let down"on by 21kev
Pros Good graphics
Cons confusing levels
Summary This is one of the biggest let downs in all of gaming history. As an old quakeworld solider (been playing quake1 since it came out) I was really looking forward to Quake 4. To say it was a let down is an under statement. When will IDSoftware realize that the "find the key" gaming system is gone - FOREVER. Now really, Quake4 uses the same style of game play that doom used, but only worse. One of the first quest is to back track to get a medic. How about that medic finding his own way? Backtracking is getting old, really old. At least in Doom 1, you just had to find a key, then get from one side of the map to the other side. In quake 4, you have to back track through VERY confusing levels, so expect to stay lost of hours on end. The backtracking and the confusing levels killed what ever good game play Quake4 had in it.
Pros Solid Graphics, Just another version of Doom 3
Cons Problems with installing, that took forever
Summary I have a Dell XPS 600 with 4 gigs of memory and 3.4 ghz Intel Pentinum 4 processor
The graphics were awesome once playin. But it was the PRE installing that made me angry. Freakin had errors during installation.
Said Error 1305: Pacakge3.pk4
Was ridiculous, and after returning due to the cd being bad, and started playing; I was let down due to the game being boring as heck. What a big let down. I would of got my fun if I purchased Sims 2 i think
