"So close to being a great game"
Pros: The settings were beautifully, and expansively realized. The puzzles were a challenge. The music was a nice background (turned it down one notch.)
Cons: Was so frustrating in the beginning I almost didn't stick it out. Too much pixel hunting--even when I knew exactly where I had to look I had a time trying to get the right angle.
Summary: Brett Todd got it all right Editor's Review. Why did the characters look like they were in shadow all the time? More, or better, hints would have made the play better -- I knew I needed that piece of wood -- but there were a trillion possibilities. Have a Roman Numeral book that you can check out (rather than duck out of the game to Google them to refresh your memory) or have Watson look at a date block with relevant Roman numerals and comment on the date. I ultimately had to turn to a walkthrough and rationalize it as the hints that should have been included. Not a feast like Riven, or a delicious snack like most of the HER Nancy Drew games, this falls in between -- and I basically found it a satisfying meal. (Since Adventure games are hard to find -- I'm giving it 4 stars.)
