"Another area that I have noticed the epi(text)"
Pros: is on www.blogspot.postsecret.com
Cons: Here people are encouraged to
Summary: create a handmade anonymous postcard with an epi(text) written on the front in the form of a deep secret that they wish for everyone on the internet to see. In this way the epi(text) is a bridge between the public sphere of the internet and the very private life of the individual. The individual wants to both remain completely unknown and yet let the world know a secret. These are often short and quotable like the PMs found in MSN. Some of my favourite examples that I have seen on Postsecret in recent months are inspire and asian. I suppose these are examples of my favourites because although I have no idea what the private situation was that created these feelings, I can still relate to them in my own intertextual way. I am touched by these tiny in[sites] into other?s lives by having an understanding that slides somewhere between their personal situation, my own personal situation, and the medium of cyberspace.
There are a few other examples that I do not wish to go into detail about for my project,
but they include www.foundmagazine.com, a website that collects, from the public who
send them, notes and list found in odd places. These ?finds? are another example of what I am calling the epi(text). Other examples include ?myspace? names, forums ? where another level of engagement occurs when we want people to reply to our epi(texts) - and of course dispersive internet fiction text (which I will come back to later).
