"Bose Companion 20: Nice and Simple"

4 stars  | on by joemanstar

Pros

Considering it a 2.0 set, very detail sound quality even at lowest or highest volume level. Superb mid and base.

Cons

Surprisingly treble is a bit weak.

Summary

If you cannot afford a pair of Bowers & Wilkins, get this as a second choice.

"Bose Companion 20: magical and great for travel!"

5 stars  | on by oddiomaniac

Pros

Very natural, organic sounding system, full of detail and crisp sounding, yet smooth and non-fatiguing to listen to. You can get plenty of volume too. Base is strong, clean and blends in well. Base freaks might be happier with a subwoofer but try hauli

Cons

I wish the drivers (cones) were higher, at ear level for even more detail. I can just jack the speakers up though. The price? Not a con; you get everything you pay for here.

Over the last 25 years, I have enjoyed some of the finest stereo equipment in the world. I've looked for a simple, no hassle system I can take with me on vacations and am happy to say, I've found it in the Bose Companion 20. Will it perform like some of the supurlative systems that cost as much as your house? No. But what it does is fill your small to medium size room with an almost magically lifelike sound. The music is crisp, detailed, yet rich, warm and smooth on the ears at the same time. It sounds like all frequencies are represented for casual listening pleasure; no major gaps there. The base is very much there and blends in well to give an accurate, natural, organic sound. I actually had to partially plug the ports in the backs to reduce the bass at times which is nice when you want to know you've got that base when you need it. Now I have a wonderful sounding system which will easily fit into my suitcase and give me many years of musical enjoyment whenever I want it. I highly recommend this piece of gear to anyone who loves music and travels once in a while, or just wants the best sounding small pair of speakers to be had in this price range for their computer.

Base freaks beware: you might need your 3ooo watts of thump, but try hauling that with you on an airline. The base in these speakers will make most sane people very happy.
