An update to Klipsch's ProMedia 5.1, the ProMedia Ultra 5.1 incorporates several design refinements: a larger, retuned subwoofer; slicker satellites; a restyled command module; and updated crossovers. The Ultra 5.1 certainly delivers excellent performance, but we expect that from a system listed at $399.

The Ultra 5.1's wired command module is a cut above that of competing systems, featuring a highly readable numeric display and a large dial that allows you to set levels with precision. Unfortunately, since it lacks digital-audio inputs, onboard Dolby Digital decoding, and a wireless remote, this Klipsch isn't well suited for use with game consoles or home-theater installations.

To the Ultra 5.1's credit, its satellites and center speaker are two-way designs. Each features a 3-inch midbass driver and a 0.75-inch metal-polymer dome tweeter mounted in a Klipsch horn. The sub uses dual side-firing 8-inch drivers and houses amps for the entire system. The center and the sats each receive a very respectable 60 watts, while an even more impressive 170 watts goes to the subwoofer.

Connected to our PC's Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound card, the Ultra 5.1 proved its sonic proficiency. When we fired up Alice DeeJay's "Better Off Alone," the powerful sub drove home the thumping electronic kick drum with impressive force and tight precision, even at very loud volumes. Explosive battles in the Soldier of Fortune II PC game further established the sub's moxie, while the satellites' smooth, even quality staved off ear fatigue during long gaming sessions.

The "Fury" chapter of the Requiem for a Dream DVD demonstrated the Ultra 5.1's excellent imaging. A telephone's busy signal precisely circled the front and rear speakers. Dynamic transitions between sonic intensity levels were smooth, but a slightly brighter center speaker would have made the dialogue a little clearer.

Overall, the Ultra 5.1 has the best sub of any multimedia speaker system we've tested. That said, we prefer the airier-sounding sats, the deeper sound field, and the Dolby Digital command module of Logitech's comparably priced Z-680.

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.

Pros: Reliable
Easy
Powerful

Cons: Not flexible

Review: I have had my Klipsch 5.1 for several years now and I've not had issue one with sound quality or reliability. I've pushed them to their limits several times and upset the neighbors with the sub more times than I care for. The only issue I have is the lack of output options available but it is an older model.

Not reliable.

Pros: Sounds awesome till it blows on you.

Cons: Chance of fire.

Review: Not reliable. All speaker boards fried. Cost me $120. to get fixed, Now It fried again in a different spot.

Do not buy them. They knew there was an issue and had a flat rate all ready to go for the board replacements. Now a different area burned up and want more money.

great, but either expencive repairs or quiet sound

Pros: great sound, very high quality

Cons: system speakers will blow unless kept at a relatively low volume

Review: had to get my system repared last year but ive kept the sub at 00 which still sounds good but just not booming. still kicking after a year. one thing to keep in mind dont leave it on when not in use because it will overheat. also it overheats at loud volumes so if you want it to last dont expect lots of kicking base or booming treb but this system would be great for apartments, or other places that have volume limits. if you want a long lasting kicking system DO NOT BUY THIS, spend the money on a good system with a long waranty, for example look into sony, panasonic, samsung, or if you want to go all out just simply buy a bose home entertainment system.

I've had my Klipsch pro media 4.1's for over 6 years

Pros: Crazy, room filling sound.
Not a problem in 6+ years, they work as well as when I bought them.

Cons: Cons? What cons?

Review: This is what I compare everything to, pc speaker wise.
I've tried the logitech's and the lot. Hands down, nothing is better for your pc.
My laptop is connected to my living room flat panel and I watch everything on it. The speakers fill the room with incredible sound. I looked for a second speaker set for another room and tried most of the top end speakers available, and compared everything to these.
You can't buy a better system for yout pc.
Klipsch would gladly resolve any issues if you buy through their retailers. They are a quality company.
Buy these! Forget the rest.

This is the best 5.1 audio system on the market today.

Pros: Excellent sound quality and well worth the money. You cannot find a better speaker system than the Klipsch Ultra 5.1s on the market today.

Cons: None! Very well worth the money!

Review: The promedia 5.1 is considered the best out of all the 5.1 speaker systems on the market today. However, their amps tend to overheat very quickly. This problem can easily be solved by installing a cooling kit on your 5.1 amp. The promedia 5.1 will last longer when you install a cooling system. The cooling system will bring down the temperature of the amp since it can become very hot whenever it is on. Installing a cooling kit will prolong the life of your promedias. The cooling kit is available on eBay or you can make one yourself. The sound quality of the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 does not stand up to the Logitech. The Promedia 5.1 has superb sound quality with total distortion ?1 %. You can still buy them on eBay. Overall, I would really recommend buying this sound system for anyone who has the time to install a cooling kit inside your amp. The sound quality would be well worth the time spent on installing the cooling kit.

Updated on Dec 6, 2009

Used Promedia Ultra 5.1 speaker systems are still available for sale on eBay, ranging from $100 to $300. These speakers are definitely of higher quality than the Logitech 5.1 speakers on the market today.

Great product, no issues after 4 years

Pros: Ease of set up, tuneability that works well with a high quality sound card, mute colors that blend in well with the environment

Cons: The lack of an adjustable foot that can be turned for different mounting position. Should come with a surge protector built in.

Review: I have used multiple Logitec systems and they all sounded good, but this sounds Great! I have owned this system for over 4 years now and not had any issues. I use a Monster Power subwoofer surge protector and noise suppressor. If you bury any amplifier and keep it from airflow it will overheat and fail. I believe that most of the reviews that claim failure have hidden their subs in a corner under a desk somewhere. Once you take the time to set up your system with a good sound card you will not be disappointed. If you buy these speakers you should spend the money on a quality sound card as it makes all the difference in the world. I have been told my computer system sounds better than most peoples home theater systems. For gameplay, there is no more earth shattering bass than from this system. Remember that heat is an amplifiers enemy. Keep this system in a place you can circulate the air or put a fan on the floor blowing at the sub. Sounds crazy to have to do this to avoid a faiure, but any amplifier at any price will self destruct from heat. I bought this system because I own Klipsch's top of the line home theater speakers and was so thoroughly impressed by them I figured their computer speakers would be just as good. I was right.

Amazing. It?s a Bliss! The Sound is purely Astonishing!

Pros: -Super ideal for a home theater if equipped with a top soundcard
-Super dazzling highs with crisp sound equipped with powerful lows coming from the Base
-Unmatchable with anything I?ve ever seen

Cons: Neighbors complaining about very loud base

Review: The Promedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System is the Jaguar of audio systems. You hear a lot of unreliability rumors, but once you get to own one you?ll realize that even after 4 years of test drive it still works like brand new.
These speakers produce a sound that you don?t normally get to hear unless you in a studio with top professional equipments. They are perfect almost for anything you may think of. I?m not sure about some of you who complain about the reliability of this system, I have had mine for about 4 years blasting music almost everyday, enjoying the system to its fullest. I have never even encountered the slightest problem and i doubt i would face any issues.

Terrible reliability

Pros: Very good sound for a pc speaker

Cons: Amp gave out after almost 2 yrs of use

Review: I was initially debating between these and the Logitech z5500 and I regret not getting the Logitech the first time around. Although the sound was great (while it worked) the whole system died after almost 2 yrs of ownership. I've read about so many people having this same exact problem, even after getting them repaired so instead shipping them to get repaired, I just went ahead and bought the Logitech z5500 and couldn't be more happier. They sound almost exactly the same for cheaper.

owned them for about two years now

Pros: sound.....sound.....sound

Cons: would be nice to have a digital input

Review: wow so many bad reviews for such a great product, i've owned mine for about 2 years now and they've been nothing but amazing, i don't know what you people are doing to yours to blow them so quickly, maybe you're not properly breaking them in, or you have them cranked all the time, i use mine at about half volume all the time (which is very loud) and they just keep on pumping out beautiful balanced sound, i 've used them everyday since i bought them, and not so much as a hiccup, they really sound better than anything else i've ever heard connected to a computer, and i'm an audio engineer, i use them to mix, and get better results than i do on my studio monitors, i really can't praise them enough, maybe they just made a bad batch recently, but mine have been nothing but faithful, they love me and i love them, anyway alot of people don't realize speakers need to be broken in like a car, take it easy on them for the first couple of weeks, don't just plug them in and turn them up to see how loud they are, the vibration is really hard on them, they need to settle into it, and with the amp mounted in the subwoofer, those components will take a beating, so take it easy out of the box, set up your sound card correctly, don't ever push them until the sound distorted and muddy or shrill, if you treat them right they should bring you nothing but happiness for a good long time, i know mine have

no problems whatsoever

Pros: The price, the performance.

Cons: Truely have had no problems with this setup.

Review: For the price I paid for this system, I am extremely Impressed... I have encountered zero problems. I Push these speakers to extreme levels and they perform beautifully while listening to gangster rap, acoustic, house/dance or even country. No matter what volume I push these to they respond with even more output. I use this system with my laptop without the center channel and everyone and sound clarity/bass response is out of this world. I dont understand why people are putting such negative reviews. This 8"in dual passive woofer setup hits like a 300watt 12" I can walk to the otherside of the house and feel this sub hitting under my feet as if it was in the same room with me. I have used this system for one year plus with like i said, zero problems. THUMBS WAY UP FROM ME!!!

They died prematurely

Pros: Sounded great when they worked.

Cons: Then the amp went just like so many others have said. Shame I didn't find this out before shelling out so much loot for them.

Great Sound but SPEAKER CHANNELS DON'T LAST!

Pros: Great sound

Cons: speaker channels fail quickly, waste of $$.

Review: I bought two separate systems, Klipsch ProMedia 5.1, then a few years later, Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1. Both only lasted about two years before the right rear channel died (no output). Of course the Klipsch 1-year warranty for computer speakers is useless.

Simply The Best

Pros: Great Sound, Great Control Box

Cons: Wires? Sorry dont have one.

Review: I bought these years ago and they are GREAT speakers, Sound GREAT, the control box is GREAT.....
If you want great sound and to have the cops called on you while you listen to your PC (like me) :( ; I suggest you buy these now. The bass will shake the house and upset the neighbors if you want it to.

Well worth the $400+ I paid.
You can probably get them alot cheaper now.

AMAZING sound... for 1.5 hours

Pros: Incredibly high quality sound, reasonable price given sound quality

Cons: Amp died after 1.5 hours of use.

Review: Nothing short of an amazing sound, for as long as it works. I read the opinions of others before buying, taking note of some who had their amp die within months of purchase. Being a current owner of a ProMedia 5.1 (not Ultra), and having had nothing but the best experience with it, I decided to take my chances. I purchased the set and plugged it into my Sound Blaster Audigy X-Fi card and without any doubt, the most amazing sound I've heard out of a set of speakers. Clear highs, good bass, all around excellent performance. I queued up a bunch of songs and let it play in the background as I did my work. After about an hour and a half of playing music, all sound suddenly stopped. The display on the remote pod still showed my volume and I could adjust it, just nothing else happened. Poweing off just produced as quiet click from the subwoofer/amp. Tried all I could and getting nowhere, decided to do more reading on the web. Turns out these speakers are PLAGUED with amp problems. Not just the odd user here and there. Klipsch's own forums contain similar experiences. There have been users who have sent their amp back to Klipch 4 times (paying the shipping charges each time). Others have complained of a month, even two months before receiving a replacement amp. This just is not acceptable. There are several theories out there as to the cause, but one big one seems to be that the amp is just not sufficiently cooled, overheats then dies. Who knows. Mind you, the feedback from other ProMedia Ultra users is completely positive, no problems at all.

This experience has been a colossal disappointment. In my mind, Klipsch has always been the pinnacle of audio quality. It would appear that recently they have let that reputation slip, which is very unfortunate. Until this experience, I have been a huge backer of Klipsch products, but I can no longer support them given this radical drop in quality. Under other circumstances, I would have taken this speaker set back, gotten an exchange, and resumed listening, but given what I read, I simply cannot chance getting stuck with a set of expensive speakers which will very likely need to be sent back for warranty work, with me paying the expensive shipping costs.

I decided to go with the only competing speaker system I have been able to find; the Logitech Z5500. Easily equal in quality in from my tests thus far.

I am am giving the ProMedia Ultra 5.1 a rating of 5 (Average), due to the quality of the components used. Any product which runs for 1.5 hours before dying would get a 1, but the sound quality easily deserves a 10, so I'm putting my vote right in the middle.

Great sound, Modern styling, Worth it

Pros: Sound, Style, Further in review...

Cons: Well the only real cons are the lack of features and the sub is a little overpowering at times.

Review: These are my first large investment in a speaker system for my computer i was going to get the Logitech Z-5500 5.1's the only reason for that was the worry of the quality of these speakers with the "BASH" Amp problems but i went after these babys when they went on sale at London Drugs the total came to $313 and they came with a toshiba Port Replicator (have yet to see everything it does) from the start which was about a month ago i started looking into speakers for my pc and i figured im not going to go cheap on them so it was either the logitech's or the Klipsch i Know that Klipsch has been in the business for much longer and thats what hooked me. When i set them up i was blown away the last system i had i got for a doller at a yard sale some old altec lansing 2.1's and i thought they were good(i was 14) but now that i have these i will never go to logitech Well on to the speakers... The control center is very stylish like i said before the one only real downside is the sub can be a little overpowering and it seems to do alot of mid-range but that really doesent bother me because they still sound exelent the one real downside is when my parents are home i have to use my headphones because of the sub. i dont listen to it over 10 but it is still powerfull and as for the lack of features in the control center dont worry just set them in the programs in your pc.
P.S. I am using the built-in 8.1 surround in my Gigabyte N-force 4 ultra motherboard and it still sounds great i am planning to get a goo sound card but i need to save up. im not going cheap.
Updated
For the people with problems get them at London Drugs If you run into any problems that are not related to people Cranking them they will replace them within a max of 3 days no holds barred and i do beleive that Klipsch has solved the problem.

Great speakers, seemed a bit expensive

Pros: surround sound and bass is wonderful

Cons: get quite hot

Review: Bought the fist version of these, and after problems gave up and got these. These have been running strong and hard for over 2 years. They survived 18 months in a part room in a fraternity, and still sound as good as new. The amp gets warm if you forget to turn them off. Use these to play doom 3 in the dark and you will be scared, I guarantee it.

Bad product and Klipsch admits this.

Pros: Great sound, WHEN working.

Cons: Amp will die, it's just a matter of time.

Review: Do yourself a huge favor and go read the forums on www.klipsch.com. They will help you understand that the amp will die and Klipsch admits to this being a "wide spread issue". However, they WILL charge you, still, to repair it. In addition, Klipsch will take more than a month, sometimes two, to repair it. I only had mine 4 months before the amp died. Some say they've had theirs for 2 years or more before it died and others say it died the same day they bought it. Like I said, it's only a matter of time. I for one will never buy another Klipsch product again in my lifetime. But don't take MY word for it, got to the Klipsch forum and read for yourself.

Not all that great!

Pros: Sound great when you first get them.

Cons: Will never last that long.

Review: I have been thru 4 sets of the 5.1 Promedia Ultra. The first set I bought they were called just Promedia. When I blew that one up (bought a 4 yr. warranty thank God!) Bestbuy told me they quit making the Promedia and had to get a Logitech at same price. Well about a yr after that I blew the logi's up. Went back for exchange and low and behold Klipsch was now making Promedia Ultra. That's what I ended up with then. About almos a year later one of the channels blew on that system. Went back for a replacement that lasted a tad over a year and now one of the channels is cracking. Now my exchanges are done as warranty is up. Just ordered the Logitech z-5500's. Hope they are as good as reviews sound. I'll never buy another Klipsch product again. Oh and for those of you that think it is my system causing the probs or I turn em up too loud NOT! I went thru a few sound cards too thinking they were the cause of probs. I blew the last set with Soundblaster x-fi. Stay away from Klipsch computer speakers.

Best Sound, Not reliable

Pros: You won't find anything even close to sound quaility

Cons: Like anything this good, it doesn't last very long

Review: Sorry, I have to agree with the others about reliabiility. I've had three of these ProMedia systems. Each time I keep hoping and praying it will endure but each time about a year later I get disappointed. These are no question, hands down the best sounding Killer Earthquake bass, and ear bleeding highs, computer sound systems you will find anywhere, really at any price, and unless you hook up to a full blown high end home stereo system, nothing compares. Not Logitech, not Cambridge, not Bose, nothing. But don't get too attached to it because in about a year, you'll be out there looking for a replacement because the Klipsch amp burned out, and the volume control reostats are so scratchy and popping so bad you cant stand it.. You say it couldn't possibly happen again and go buy another, but guess what? A year later you're out checking the stores and rlistening to those cheap plastic trash can sounding systems for something to replace it. Unfortunately, there just are no replacements that sound as good. So you try one more time. Its a vicious circle. Go on Ebay and see how many broken systems are being auctioned, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out whats going on........

Excellent speakers, flaky amp - BEWARE!!!

Pros: Superb sound!

Cons: Amp failure rate excessive - terrible Klipsch support

Review: After reviewing 5.1 systems and listening to the Klipsch 5.1, the choice was a no-brainer - the ProMedia sound was as crisp and clear as it could be, with excellent definition across the spectrum... Gave rave reviews on the speakers.... till the amp failed... Went to Klipsch.com's forum and found amp frying is the most common problem...

Am disgusted to have spent several hundreds of dollars on a system with a known fault that Klipsch chooses to ignore (well, after the amp goes walkabout, Klipsch will repair or sell you a replacement amp for $90 plus shipping (and a three week to two month wait), so you can cross your fingers and HOPE it doesn't quit AGAIN - No thanks... no more $$$ to Klipsch)... Going to buy a Logitech Z5500 - BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Your ears will love these babies

Pros: good quality on high volume

Cons: must have a really good sound card

Review: Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speakers will give you perfect results with Creative Audigy 2 series soundcards. The bass is strong but in a small room it is not very good to have it on high volume. short-lived blissful audio experience

Pros: Tight bass, non-shrill/piercing treble, powerful sound

Cons: Short-lived, cheap-looking control module, no digital decoder

Review: I can only repeat what other reviewers have said before me:

The sound quality of these babies is simply excellent (a bit lacking in the details department, but still very good nonetheless). Base is tight and not too boomy or overpowering, treble and mid-range very well pronounced, dual side-firing 8" subwoofer does excellent job at producing rumbles and rattling windows and even doors and walls, and smart looking satellites (when you take the grills off).

BUT...

I have been warned by users before me, but i just couldnt resist the temptation of excellent sound quality. Now I am paying the price of my curiosity. The amp blew out last night, leaving only very small, muffled sound. And I have only purchased the set 3 months ago. All this, after paying nearly $300 for the speakers and an additional $90 for an external digital decoding soundcard for my laptop, bring my rating of this product to "poor". Klipsch shouldve done a better job at producing more long-lasting amps, especially since this problem is now known to inflict most (if not all) of Promedia Ultra 5.1s. Isnt that what R&D is for? Really, with the high prevalence of such problem, this item should be recalled and announced "defective".

I emailed Klipsch' customer service this morning and am still waiting for their response. I have read in another review forum that they at least have friendly, well-informed folks to address this matter and are quick in mailing a pre-paid return shipping form and even replacing the unit, but I have yet to experience that. We'll see.

Beautiful sound that never lasts

Pros: Sound is open and wonderfully full

Cons: Amplifier stinks - and just goes boom every 6 mo

Review: I take very good care of my gear and there is a UPS and extremely good current to all items. I don't play things loud. And I have owned now 5 sets of these speakers and several other Klipsch speakers. The sad part is all of these sets save one have been warranty repairs. Oh it took a few years to build up that many, but they never last. The amp dies regularly. I have had Onkyo amps that have lasted for decades but I guess to get this sound at this price level this is the penalty you pay.

Sadly, because I love the Klipsch sound overall, I'd have to recommend that no one take these home unless they really don't expect more than a year or two service at most.

If you read up on the issues with Klipsch subwoofers on the web (with their built in amps) I think you'll find a disturbing trend, in that I am not alone in these problems.

Great speakers - but a horrible and pathetically short lived amplifier ruin the experience.

unbelievable sound! monstrous sub!!

Pros: monstorous dual driver subwoofer(VERY loud might i add); crystal clear highs; decent mids; cool control module; sexy styling.... too much to list lol

Cons: pricey ;doesnt include wall mounting brackets 4 the rear surrounds; a little tweaking of the sound card required to get the best sound(took me ten minutes); thats really it and they're minor

Review: U have to hear them to believe it!!!! thes r some of the best sounding computer surround sound speakers. the subwoofer is monstorous! it only distorts if you have the soundcard bass set to full and the volume up to at least 70(80 is max).

i hooked them up in ten minutes.
the highs r crystal clear.(after a little tweeking of the sound card)
i've read a lot of reviews that the subwoofer blows after a while. i havent had ne problem. the amp gets pretty warm though. that might be a problem eventually , but i highly doubt it.
the control pod is very easy to use.

VERY VERY LOUD!!!!!! these speakers r so loud my roomate could fell the bass reverberate through the walls three rooms down the hall. he said he could feel it in his chest!!! yes, they're that loud!!!!
also, these speakers sound so good that you can hear things u never could have imagined hearing before.

i recommend that if you're willing to spend a decent amount of dough on pc speakers this is the way to go!!!!

If you have the money, it just doesn't get any better then this

Pros: Awsome sound, will not bottom out, Best speakers you'll buy

Cons: The price tag

Review: I bought these speakers to replace and old Altec 4.1 system that died. Being a big Audiophile I demanded the best system there is. I've compaired Logitech, Bose, and Creative, and none of them can compaire to these.

While there is not digital input on the system, anyone with commone sense understands that once the signal leaves the reciver to the speakers it is turned into an analog signal. Not to mention digital only takes a select sample of audio while Analog sends the entire wavelength.

However this system is simple fantastic, you'll never hear any distortion in the sound regaurdless of volume. If you have the money, and an ear to really hear the perfection of this system you will love it.

It's a real pleasure listening to music coming out of my computer now!

Pros: Rich sound, easy, fast and perfectly functional controls (designed by somebody who actually listens to sounds coming out of computer speakers?)

Cons: big, a bit ugly (but not as predecesors of these, which were disturbingly big & ugly)

Review: Worth every penny, given the prices of high end PC speakers though :)

I used to have Logitech Z-680. For two years. I thought they were very good and I was really happy with them. Then the volume button gave up and I exchanged them for what was newer, and so I thought would be a better product: Z-5500.

I had to return these without even trying the sound. Yes, it seemed to be an upgrade to my original Z-680 but it was made of cheaper materials, speakers had wires coming out of them (no clips, as if Logitech new how far away I have my $400 speakers placed from computer), and no jack for headset anywhere to be found!?

So, reluctantly I had to buy the Klipsch Ultra 5.1 (reluctantly because I did not know whether they would sound as good as the Logitech, plus they were bigger and maybe a bit uglier)

But, I say, lucky me! The two are incomparable. They are worlds apart. I am not an audiophile, but I like good sound and the sound coming out of Klipsch is SUPERIOR. Period. There is simply no comparison.

While listening to the same songs, I hear sounds now I have never heard coming out of the Logitech (throughout the whole spectrum: base, middles and highs). Really, it sounds a bit like new music, new dimensions. I am not exaggerating.

I also tried to play UT just to see how they behave in a game. The same results: superior (I am not sure if I am biased at this point already, but it also seemed to me that the directional audio is much better defined with the Klipsch).

Also, the controls are significantly more intuitive and quicker to access, despite being simpler.

I am a happy camper.

What else to say? Only, remember why do you buy speakers in the first place! For all the impressive acronyms on the box, or for the sound?

Didn't Last that long

Pros: Sound was good

Cons: Sub went out on me at the 2 year warranty

Review: Can replace with rebuilt for $100.00 or buy new Sub for $175.00. Sucks! I might as well wait until something new comes out.

Best sound on market for music on desktop!

Pros: Spectacular subwoofer, system easy to use and makes loads of clean volume.

Cons: I would like a remote control but this is minor...you can use after-market units now available.

Review: I have been using this system with my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz 5.1 sound card for several months now and I must say that I am very satisfied! The sound from my computer never disappoints. My friends and family who have heard them are very impressed and thinking of buying their own. I think Cnet's overall review is pretty accurate but you will notice that the Ultra 5.1's losing a few points compared with the competition because they lack "features"...Lets make it simple here...these speakers are made with only one thing in mind....the best music production froma desktop speaker system available....I think I can live without a few minor features for the superior sound here...also they are well worht their price at 300.00-350.00. If music reproduction is what you are going for this is it!

worked...for 30 minutes

Pros: Clear treble

Cons: Mid is lacking

Review: Bought it at Best Buy. Set it up, played some music for 30 minutes, turned the bass up to 5 db and the amp quit.

The mid range was very mediocre. Not impressed.
Updated
Listened to some mp3's for 30 minutes and it stopped working. Crisp treble, ok bass, next to no midrange. Why people rave so much about these, I'm really not sure. Maybe everyone's used to crap PC speakers that the heavy bass with these excites their ears? Klipsch has put out one shotty piece of hardware!

Logitech's I guess are better? I may go back to Best Buy and try to listen to them. Funny thing, now that I think of it. Best Buy's speaker display wasn't hooked up because people would apparently "blast the speakers too loudly". This seemed fishy to me at the time, and their utter lack of any willingness to let me listen to them before I bought them didn't help. BestBuy salesmen are about a 1/2 notch above car salesmen in my experience. Reading the reviews of these speakers breaking down, I would imagine the in store speakers were toast as well. Screw this prosumer PC speaker junk, just invest in real speakers and an amp. You'll be much happier in the long run. Don't believe the raving reviews. Compared to cheap JBL's or some similar prosumer stereo system speaker, these speakers are just mediocre in the overall scheme of things.

Awesome speakers-Apple users will be challenged!

Pros: Great sounding speakers!

Cons: Software for mac weak

Review: I bought these speakers with high expectations and they delievered great results. The only problem is the driver for Mac. You need an external soundcard for Imacs. I bought a m-audio sonica theater usb card. Hooks right up to your usb on your imac. Has all the right colors for the cables. Then you download the cd and wha la--your hooked up. BUT-when your computer goes to sleep you have to restart to get it to work again.

This system works better on the my G5 Imac than my g4. The sound difference is incredible. I am waiting for the Tiger update so this program runs smoother without having to restart.

M-audio set me back 100.00. But worth it

Amazing speakers!!......and then.....

Pros: Great sound and window jarring base!

Cons: Very unreliable.

Review: I must start out by saying that I loved these speakers. I started out with the 4.1s. and the sound was so big--heaven for about 6 months. Then one of the satelites quit and later the sub. croaked for no apparent reason. Upgraded to the 5.1s--bliss for 3 months then the sub. died. Are you seeing a theme here? For this price I would expect much better reliability. As painful as it is, for the $140 I'd have to spend to get the latest casualty repaired ($50 shipping, $90 standard repair rate) I think I'll just buy some Logitechs. What a pity..... Don't say you haven't been warned.

Excellent multimedia speakers; the very best in PC audio.

Pros: Great audio fidelity, powerful subwoofer.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Review: If you're looking for the very best in PC speakers look no further than Klipsch's ProMedia Ultra 5.1s. The satellites kick clear, crisp tones and the subwoofer can hit the lowest of frequencies. The control pod is a little light but effective for adjusting the volume.

I could not hear any distortion as I cranked the volume up on this system. Klipsch has done an amazing job with these speakers and everything about them screams professional. One another potential "knock" (if you see it as such) is that there are no digital input or output jacks. Besides that these truly the very best in multimedia audio.

Absolutely Amazing

Pros: Excellent Sound. No other speakers needed.

Cons: No remote control.

Review: I tell ya, these speakers are IT! The subwoofer is so powerful yet clear. It's not just boomy bass. You can clearly hear every low note. The satellites are very nice too. Crystal clear sound. Only a hardcore audiophile will realize that there's no digital connection, but I don't miss it from my other speakers.

No distortion at higher volumes (and I do mean high). My neighbor has come over twice due to how loud I play these things. Absolutely no regrets and look forward to what they have to replace these.

Superb Speaker System!!!

Pros: These speakers are very well made in every sense. The design is awesome, the controls are well designed and easy to use. They are very powerful yet precisely crafted as to reproduce very fine/very exact sounds from tight bass to great mids and topped of

Cons: 500+ watts of power drawn, so the system basically requires its own outlet for peak performance. A little too powerful for small areas/rooms (i.e. will not sound as crisp in small settings). Sound field could have been a bit deeper.

Awesome Sound!!!

Pros: This is by far the loudest and cleanest system I've heard. I cranked the volume up to 80 (Highest setting) and the sound was still clear, I just had to turn the sub-woofer down some. My neighbors hate Doom 3 now!

Cons: No optical input, and no wireless remote.

What a home theater it makes off my laptop

Pros: Bid it off ebay for $180 to enhance the new projector and laptop combination, the result is quite impressive. When I added the M-audio sonic theater 7.1 USB external processor, it becomes a superb system and really starts to show Klipsch 's full potentia

Cons: Sure, lack of digital in, remote, built-in surround decoder would be down side, but with these days software decoder like winDVD6 or M-audio or Audigy 's hardware/software combination, you have to admire Klipsch's full potential as a speaker system for su

Z-5500 all the way

Pros: I haven't heard this system but I think it's safe to say that it sounds amazing.

Cons: Limited features, Amp will burn out do not make it a good value. The Z-5500's on the other hand are far more reliable and sound every bit as good. Choose as you will but low price, increadible features, great sound and reliability put the Z-5500 far ahead

Good sound, less feature

Pros: This is indeed a good sounding system. Better EQ than the promedia 5.1. I've had these for a while and they're a good, solid system.

Cons: That said, I just picked up a set of the Logitech Z5500 and w/o question the Logitech is a better value. Why? Sound quality: Both are good systems and the sound for the buck is significantly better than you could get from the HTIB side of the store.

Pros: Seriously, after listening to these I can not go back to 2.1 My friends are amazed at the sub. I set it on low and they still leave my generic 20watt 2.1 in the dust. Even more thrilling with a Audigy 2.

Cons: The cost is way up there. You will be satisfied with the sound but at this price, I was expecting a little more features on the control pod. Also, the wires will drive you crazy. You might want to invest in some quality 5.1 surround sound THX cables or Mo

Great Speaker, Worth Hefty Price Tag

Pros: Great sound from Highs, Mids, and Lows. Subs are excellent quality, and it shakes the whole room when listening to DVD's. Klipsch crammed the quality of there legendery sound, into a 400$ system, which was well worth it. Sound to price ratio, is the well

Cons: Lacking digital decoder, which wouldn't be so bad, if Klipsch hadn't dis-continued there external one. Now you are stuck with a creative one. Also, the price is alot, but it is well worth it once you get it home and set-up.

Cons: PS: to Logitech, stop making tweeter less speakers, it makes a whole lots of difference. I know that the cone is supposedly a tweeter but it doesn’t compare to the separate tweeter network. No digital decoder, no remote. I don't see it as a minus because
