"Incompatible with G7 mouse. Rear speaker hiss"

by claine on February 12, 2006

Pros: Nice control unit. Strong bass.

Cons: Nukes the G7 mouse. Rear speakers have a noticable hiss. Expensive.

Summary: These speakers completely destroy the usability of Logitech's G7 mouse. Funny isn't it. Logitech speakers that aren't compatible with a logitech mouse.

The problem is the wireless frequency used to signal the rear speakers... 2.4 GHz. This is the same frequency used for the G7 lazer mouse. Whenever the speakers are turned on, the mouse jumps and stutters so bad that it renders the mouse inpoperative, even while just using Windows. And if you are in a game, forget it! Reaching over and turning off the speakers via the power switch located on the control module results in an immediate improvement in mouse performance. Turning the speakers on again kills the mouse. For $499, I expected more. Logitech product A should not make Logitech product B inoperative.

Also, there is a noticable hiss eminating from the rear speakers. If you are picky about that sort of thing, be warned.

I'm taking these speakers back to the store and looking for something else. I'd rather have a wireless mouse than wireless rear speakers.
