"Excellent (Conditionally)"
Pros: Excellent imaging
Crisp, neutral sound output
Lots of sound output for their size, they don't peak out at very high volume either
Great build quality
Compact size
Plenty of included accessories/cablesCons: A bit overpriced @ MSRP
Summary: First things first. Don't expect to be bumping bass out of these guys. Not what they were built for. I bought these for my laptop because I have Z-5500s out in the living room for bumping loud music and wanted something a little more refined for where I spend the majority of my time at home (my desk).
Power switch on rear
Amp on left channel gets very toasty
Some reviews said the speakers were large, but I don't really find them to be large at around 5" wide, 8" high, 6" deep. You shouldn't really worry about it unless you're on a very small desk.
Now, on to the sound
Highs are great, nice, sharp and crisp
Mids are also spectacular, very well bodied
Lows are definitely present and decent at balancing out with the highs and mids, but these speakers can't do any desk shaking.
I'd recommend buying these in accordance with your musical taste, if you're playing rap/hip hop/techno all day, you probably are going to want a sub. For more acoustic/vocal music these are fantastic. Again, the imaging on these is great, the channels are very distinct if you have enough spread between the speakers.
Honestly, if you can find a deal under 100 bucks I'd just lay down the extra cash for the Z-2300s, but I got these for substantially less and have the Z-5500s already so I couldn't really refuse.
