"A 2.1 PC speaker system without a separate subwoofer"
Pros: incredible sound quality, very stylish design
Cons: the built-in BASS shakes the whole speakers
Summary: This is an example of an ingenius 2.1 speaker system that has divided the BASS (normally coming from a subwoofer) between the 2 satellite speakers.
The Philips SPA9300 uses the exact same speakers without the BASS part and has added a large but powerful subwoofer.
While the BASS is weaker compared to systems with a separate subwoofer, you have to realize that these speakers produce all the sound in front of you: completely synchronized and with incredible quality. There are no beats coming from a separate piece from under your desk, which adds to the special experience.
Although perfectly suited for listening to music, songs with a strong bass can give the MMS321 a hard time at higher volumes due to excessive vibration of the BASS part, which causes the speaker to tremble (along with many other things on your desk) and even move.
I believe this is the only downside to this otherwise perfect set of speakers.
The price is slightly on the expensive side compared with other 2.1 systems with similar features. What you have to remember that Philips used all their newest technologies to come up with stylish speakers capable of producing exceptional sound quality and having an integratesd BASS, mimicking an actual subwoofer. You can connect them to a laptop and carry them around, the only extra bulk being the power supply (about the size of one of the speakers).
But as we all know, you pay more for compact pieces of technology in the pc world today, so i think the price is pretty reasonable.
