Manufacturer description
The Sony SRS-T77 compact speakers are lightweight and easy to carry due to their foldable design. The sound delivered is of remarkable quality from speakers only about the size of a CD case. Yet they are capable of producing big sound, accurate bass and high acoustic output. Total power output of 2W provides ample volume for exciting wide-range sound. Built-in Mega Bass boosts the low frequencies for impressive bass sound. New SmFeN injection-molded magnets produce maximum energy output that is more than three times greater than traditional ferrite speaker magnets. Dynamic bass reflex sound port is provided for enhanced reproduction and features an active sound duct for enriched sound and substantial output. Two-way power supply allows fully portable operation with optional "AA" x 4 batteries or plugged into standard household AC outlet with optional AC-E90HGAC Adaptor.Product summary
The good: Clear-sounding portable stereo speakers; folds for compact storage; runs off four AA batteries or an AC adapter.
The bad: Audible hiss when not playing music.
The bottom line: It won't rock the house, but this featherweight portable stereo speaker sounds immediate and clear.

To play the T77, you must first unfold the speakers and swivel a steadying foot out from the bottom of the slender unit. The T77 then cants back a few degrees to direct the sound up toward your ears and away from the horizontal surface it rests on. No one will claim that the T77 has a high-end design, but its build quality is fairly impressive. Since the speakers don't have a volume button, you must use your player's control.
We found the Sony SRS-T77's sound pleasantly immediate and detailed. Aerosmith's extraraunchy Honkin' with Bobo CD rocked with gusto, and less aggressive melodic pop music from singer/songwriter Ron Sexsmith sounded present. Sony claims the T77's Dynamic Sound Ducts enhance bass reproduction. But don't get your hopes up; no matter what sort of ducts they feed into, a pair of 1.5-inch woofers won't rattle your cage. In a quiet room, when you're not playing music, you'll hear some hiss from the speakers, but that's hardly a deal breaker. We used our Jens of Sweden MP-300 with equal success.
Creative's nifty little TravelSound speakers edged out the T77 in a brief shoot-out; the TravelSound kit had a bit more bass and sounded a little cleaner than the T77. Still, though the Sony sounds best at low to moderate levels, we like that it can get really loud before distorting.

Considering they are 24 years old...!
Pros: Portable, durable, and loud. The unit I have was purchased in 1986-87 time range to rock the Walkman! Yeah roll tape! The sound very good, no clipping. For a palm sized personal sound system I don't know that you will do much better in 2010.
Cons: You can't buy it any more. They do hiss (reminds you of their casset roots).

The best looking portable speakers anywhere.
Pros: ..comes from my country..
Cons: Bass ports not really working.
Should have been more smaller and compact if they omitted the bass compartment(upper side)which don`t actually reproduces more bass needed.
Much better if it comes with a built-in volume control.

best and most portable speaker
Pros: great sound for the size. i travelled around the world with these for a year and half. They were so easy to transport and were better than anything else i saw or tried. I really recomend them!
Cons: no volume control. A separate volume control on the unit would be an immediate improvement but you can't have everything.

Quite possibly the worst sounding speaker i've ever heard
Pros: It's portable, but check out the new JBL On Tour for a portable sound product done right.
Cons: It sounds absolutely awful...no bass, radically underdamped response colors vocals. I've heard lots of portable systems and laptops, and this one neck and neck with the worst of the bunch.

Sweet sound, travels well.
Pros: The sound was very solid, not bad base, easy and quick. Long battery life. Traveled Africa with ipod and this: played jazz on the side of Kili
Cons: Kinda heavy (price you pay for the base I guess)
