"Good for the pirce, but is it the best? Of course not."
Pros: - good value for price, can get loud enough, powerful bass, decent highs, stylish, nice remote, good for gaming
Cons: - nowhere NEAR being best PC speakers like many think, bloaty bass in many songs, poor midrange
Summary: For a mainly peripheral company, you wouldn't have expected Logitech to be able to produce such a nice pair of speakers. However, these are still from being the best like many seem to think. Don't get me wrong, these are a great pair of speakers for your average Joe who wants to get some booming bass and decent sound. That's why these speakers are great for movies and games.
Music is where these speakers stumble a bit. I'm sure others have mentioned: there is a distinct lack of midrange on these things. I also own a pair of Altec Lansing MX5021 for comparison, which has dual 3" midrange drivers and a tweeter for highs, while the ALs the Z-2300 has a single 2.5" driver per satellite. It doesn't take a sound engineer to tell you which one will probably be better for music (hint: AL). The subwoofer is very strong, which is a dual-edged sword. It's great for movies and games, but will sound way bloated on some songs (rap, drum-heavy, hiphop) even if you turn the bass down.
If money is no object, and you are truly into excellent music reproduction, I recommend the Altec Lansing MX5021 or the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 instead.
