"Great Unit Once You Work Out The Bugs ..."

    by elijah_baley on March 24, 2005

    Pros: Great Display and Ergonomics

Cons: Have to reset often because of hardware issues.

Summary: I use my Axim extensively and the X50v's superior display is worth the extra money. The ergonomics are great. Now here are the problems: If you turn off the wireless features, you cannot get them to work after turning them back on unless you also soft reset the device. This problem exist for the Blue Tooth Keyboard and the wireless B. Also, the device has a wrist strap hook, but finding a wrist strap you can attach to it is extremely difficult (the hole on the unit is very small). I finally found a camera wrist strap on Ebay that I could hook to it. It is beyond belief that Dell does not sell one. Also, the extra capacity battery almost doubles the thickness of the unit, but it is worth it for a long day of use. Overall, I love the device and it performs better than I expected. The wireless features are great if you have access to hotspots. One more note, the 3D games that come with it are crappy. You are better off downloading Bejeweled 2.
    Updated
Update: About a week ago the unit died. DEAD and I mean DEAD. Not paniking (because it was backed up and still under warranty) - I called Dell support. Well they had me take out the battery, hold the power button down for about a minute, then hook it up to the charging cable, then turn it on. Can you believe it actually worked. I had to reset it up (which I think should be done periodically anyway) and so far no problems. Dell Support actually saved the day. Moral of the story: Back it up.

I use the wireless function on my Axim X50v regularly and have never had to do a soft reset in order to reactivate the wireless functionality...sound like a defect in you're unit.
