"ASUS My Pal A626 - a friend indeed"

    by Rach1974 on March 1, 2008

Pros: Came with the 6.0 upgrade programmed in; size comparable to other similar units; lock feature keeps unit from being accidentally turned on and using up valuable battery life

Cons: Have had to perform a soft reset a few times, due to lock up; stylus located in an awkward position; not wild about switching to PC platform on a mobile device

Summary: The ASUS MyPal A626 became one of my frontrunners while I was comparing prices on various units. My Zire had just started going kaput, and I had to quickly make a decision on a new PDA, before losing all of my data.

I was a loyal user of Palm OS, so the platform switch was probably the most difficult part of this new device.

Overall, I'm impressed though. Plenty of memory, wonderful functionality, plus the ability to do much of what I have grown used to having on my Palm.

    Upsides:
Screen easily switches from portrait to landscape - one touch of a button.
WiFi finds networks easily, without me having to be a computer genius.
Various ways to input data (transcribing, on-screen keyboard, etc.), so something for everyone.
So far the battery life has impressed me, especially when I realize the WiFi was on all night.
Same size as other similar units.
Many of the same features as more expensive units.

    Downsides:
Unit seems a bit on the heavy side.
Although I love the design, the unit shows fingerprints on the casing and buttons rather easily.
Stylus is a bit difficult to get out of the area in which it is contained.
SD card, when bumped, easily loses connection to the handheld.

Overall, this is an easy unit to use, as long as you have played with a smartphone and utilized other Windows-based programs in the past.

It is easy to set-up mail, enter appointments, and follow-up with clients.

Price-wise, I think it is one of the best on the market.
