iQue M4 (discontinued)

iQue M4

Entered CNET Catalog: 12/06/2005

SKU: 010-00480-20

Manufacturer: Garmin International

Manufacturer description

The iQue M4 is Garmin's first iQue to come pre-loaded with City Navigator North America NT covering the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. There's no need for downloads from your PC. The iQue M4 uses Garmin's familiar StreetPilot interface that greets users with two recognizable options: "Where to? " and "View map". It also includes the same features found in Garmin's other high-end street navigators including intuitive navigation with automatic route calculation; voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions; 2D or 3D map view; and automatic rerouting if a motorist strays off course. With the iQue M4's larger navigational icons, users can select icons with their finger rather than a stylus. After using the touchscreen to enter information about the destination - such as the name or street address - the driver will be given detailed, turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions. Destinations may also be selected through the points of interest (POIs) database, which includes nearly six million POIs such as restaurants, fuel, banks, and hotels. This street-smart navigator can remind you of an appointment, show the location on the Map Page, and route you right to the front door. With its POI Loader software, Garmin has also made it possible for customers to augment pre-loaded maps with custom POIs such as school zones and safety cameras. The built-in Windows Media Player lets users browse music by artist, album, song, and genre. MP3s can be loaded onto an SD card or internal memory for music on the go. The iQue M4 boasts a new SiRF high-sensitivity receiver for improved GPS performance, 64 megabytes of RAM, and SD/SDIO expansion slot for memory, wireless networking, and more. The iQue M4 also features Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition operating system, which includes Pocket Office applications and supports portrait/landscape screen orientation for easy viewing of multimedia content.

Great Buy.. wish it can be use as mobile also

Pros: great features, stunning looks

Cons: its not a mobile.

Review: hey Guys,
Thininking of buying M4, dont think twice grab it, its worth money spent am using this in India, we have a detail map problem here, but M4 works well, its just some times it give calculation error while calculating routes and you got to wait for atleast 3 minutes it acquire satellite, last 3 months its doing well without any hanging problem, the suction cradle is great and if you have a google earth plus you can also transfer kml files to see the route on google,
Happy surfing

It's a Real Good GPS But not good for internet browsing

Pros: Real Good screen and 3D clarity, accurate

Cons: No good interface to connect to the internet, although it has irDA it is hard to go wireless or WI-FI, a bit expensive

Review: I think it is a great Pocket PC for beginners and a very good GPS for any one. I always have a very bad time on my travel routes and I messup in the middle of the road and this helped me a lot in tracking the direction pretty accurate and recalculating the route if I missed it. Its good as a GPS but if you want more from it then better be ready to get an additional SD card whether 1 or 2 or 4GB ones so that you can enjoy you music and videos. I am still looking for a way to make it a WI-FI compatible and I am not sure about it yet. Let me know if any one can help me with it.

Some flaws, but the best out there

Pros: size, full featured, accuracy

Cons: flaky software, integration

Review: has and does it all. from going to POI's to contacts it's fast and smooth (be sure to check for updates though).
easy to set up contacts and save locations.
can select a location for an appointment and route to it in advance; but when reminder pops up the only options are snooze or dismiss and no 'open' or 'goto'; so you have to break out the stylus and open it in the calendar.
fast reroutes, though occasional errors (wrong on 1-way street, says turn when road naturally curves, etc).
'fastest route' sometimes forces use of freeways although the 'shortest route' is faster.
screen is too reflective and washes out in sun.
still; got a good deal on it and can't live without it. better than a car only system.

Compact, but lacks accuracy

Pros: size, 3d map, address book

Cons: no wireless, no phone, weak maps, low accuracy, weak speaker, poor bright sun use

Review: I have a Garmin 2610 also, the 2610 rocks, it is much more powerful and accurate. the iQue will get you within eyeshot of your destination in most instances, if that is ok with you go for it. the residence inn at the philly airport was 100yrds short and on the wrong side of the road, luckily the bldg is 12 stories tall. i had similar trouble with the christiana hilton in delaware.

This is an excellent GPA / PDA for business traveler!!

Pros: Mapping, routing, 3D mapping, GPS accuracy

Cons: No built-in wifi, price, no foreign language support on s/w

Review: After operating iQue 3600 for 15 months, I switched to M4. What a change. 3D mapping, accuracy on GPS, routing, all excellent. I like pocket PC better than Palm, so would it be the reason? I travel most of the time, and I depend on it 100% (not good idea?start forgetting how to read a map) WiFi capability is a plus, but hard to find a SDIO card (I also hate a card sticking out?I already broke two from accident.) I can?t wait for Garmin to develop built-in wifi model.
