"Reliable workhorse but lacks space"
Pros: long battery life, reliable, lots of freeware
Cons: no backlight, insufficient space, low alarm sound, needs a serial port
Summary: My first PDA, second-hand and still going strong. The battery lasts for 4 days with heavy use and without re-charging and then recharges very quickly (my M515, even with the backlight on low, needs a re-charge every day now). I could read books by importing them as text files into the Memo (Palm Desktop splits the text up into lots of memos but arranges them numerically in the Memo folder - I put each book in its own category and move the read sections into another category for deleting.) I got a good Bible program (BibleWithYou) and a good free patience game so as well as my appointments, addresses and shopping list I had plenty to entertain me on long journeys. The unit is tiny and light and a hard case purchased on Ebay made it very sturdy. The alarm had a feeble sound but flashed up a message so I would not get carried away playing patience.
On the con side, being older I had to have reasonable light to see it although it showed up better in daylight than many colour units and was actually very clear if the light was good.
Although the bible software was great it was dreadfully slow (but fine on my M515) and there was no room left to add a concordance and it was pretty slow to load.
TinySheet (a spreadsheet unit) crashed the unit because of lack of space.
This unit can be picked up very cheaply second hand and as such is an excellent choice but be warned, you need a spare serial port on your PC (few laptops have them) so you can backup your info - I never did manage to get either my USB adapter cable or my Serial to USB converter to work well enough so that I can Hotsync although I have heard that it is possible.
