"My first PDA, and I love it"
Pros: Easy to use, Color, Plays MP3, A great organizer.
Cons: Flimsy screen cover, crashes, lo-res screen.
Summary: For my first PDA, I love it! It is small, easy to use and Powerful.
Smoothly interfaces with Outlook 2003. Bright color screen. With a sd memory card it can play MP3s and store a few ebooks.
I feel it should have came with a case and a screen protector, rather than the poor cover, also a reset tool.
My Zire 31 has crashed several times. It does not come with a tool to press the reset switch.
I added documents-to-go and a dictionary, it does more than I thought a PDA could do.

If your Z31 keeps crashing, make a note of what program you were running. You might have a bad download, especially if it's free- or sharewhare.
I made my own reset tool - I just partially straightened out a paper clip. Why pay a buck or more for something you can get for less than a penny?
I agree with you that the rubber flap is way too flimsy, which is why I bought myself a nice fake suede cover. I found it for a buck at my local 98 Cents Only store. It was meant for a Handspring, I think, but my Z31 fits well enough in it. If you prone to be clumsy like me, this is a very good accessory to get. These Z31's are hardy little beasties, but I think mine wouldn't have held up like it has without its little leather safety jacket. It even has pockets where I can store my reset tool (ie, paper clip).
