Like the V35 before it, the V36 is light and slim, weighing only 4.8 ounces and measuring 5 by 3 by 0.5 inches. The display is the same too: a 3.5-inch transflective TFT with a 65,000-color palette. The biggest difference, though, is the unit's camera. Situated on the back of the device, the camera is capable of snapping color images at up to 640x480 pixels in size, though it lacks a flash.
The V36 will run Microsoft's Pocket PC 2003 OS, and it comes with a 300MHz Intel XScale processor, 32MB of ROM, and 64MB of RAM (about 36MB of which are user-accessible). While that's somewhat of a letdown, the unit does have a Secure Digital slot to add memory or SDIO devices. In its press materials, ViewSonic said that it will soon offer an SDIO Wi-Fi adapter for about $129.
One of the ViewSonic's best features is its price. At an affordable $329, the V36 is one of the least-expensive Pocket PCs, as well as one of the first available with an integrated camera. But don't make your purchasing decision on specs alone; keep an eye out for our full review.
