After Days of Trying to Get It to Work - CRASH!!!
Pros: Seems faster than versions 7.0, 8.0 & 9.0
Cons: Installation software CANNOT convert 6.0 database, Level 1 technical support has not been supplied with proper diagnostics, memory leak that leads to crash.
Based upon CNET's rating criteria and the need to upgrade to a supported version of the software ACT 2008 only rates a 2, it's terrible.
The installation software cannot convert a version 6.0 database and to make matters worse the public knowledge base and knowledge base used by tech support does not recognize the error codes and statements provided by ACT 2008 (v 10.0).
Initial installation failed and tech support said it was due to the software and database were not installed on the root drive. The uninstall utility did not work and the only way to uninstall the software was to spend hours on the phone with tech support manually removing instructions with the reg edit utility. This would not have been so bad had it not been that upon reinstalling the software and db on the root drive the problem persisted only to determine that the installation software DOES NOT WORK.
After being passed on to Level 2 support the datebase was sent to tech support to be converted. Level 2 support was able to convert the database HOWEVER, there is a memory leak that ultimately leads to the software crashing and a mandatory computer restart to recover memory.
I gave up after calling when I could not escalate the problem aftet calling support one last time with a problem ticket number only to find out that to reach anyone in Level 2 support I had to go through Level 1 support and had to hang up after being put on hold for more than 45 minutes.
I could not determine if this version works any better than versions 7, 8 or 9 with Outlook.
Looks like I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that I don't run into a problem with version 6 which is no longer supported.
