"No streaming video? No full music download transfers to iPod???" on by cellphonejunkie
Pros: Fast, fast fast!
Cons: No streaming video, can't transfer music downloads to iPod
Summary: The biggest problem w/ VCast is no streaming video! I don't understand why they are not using Thin Media who provides the video software for carriers in South Korea & Japan who are running the ultra-fast EV/DO technology...
Additionally, if you download full music tracks, according to the VZW rep in the store I went to, you CANNOT transfer these tracks to your iPod...
So why bother? Just download from iTunes at home & carry your iPod or Shuffle instead... If I were VZW, I would be banging down the doors of Motorola to be the first w/ the iTunes handset... But alas, VZW will probably let Cingular have the first shot at that, just like w/ the Mot Razr V3....
A contact told me that Verizon Wireless did a deal w/ Microsoft to block other software apps from their 3G service... Can anyone out there confirm? I did notice there is no support from VZW for the Apple Powerbook w/ their EV/DO data cards... So I had to return mine after a curt response from customer service saying they don't support Apple... -
"Not ready for prime time" on by gabelevinson
Pros: A step in thre right direction
Cons: Limited coverage, expensive, marginal usefulness
Summary: Verizon unrolled one more useless expensive service to enhance its revenues. The best thing I have to say about the new service is that it is a step in the right direction. That future day when the service is available nation wide (or better yet globally) at G4 or G5 speeds(T1 ++) when mobil phones have larger screens with TV quality broadcast where every Satellite TV program is on tap. At this point it is a Gee Wheeze gadget for people who have $15 a month to burn.

"A Gateway to more Fees" on by Philodox
Pros: Clips are updated. Good web browsing
Cons: Mo' Money for Mo' Problems
Summary: This is an interesting and creative service but it's certainly not worth the $15 a month fee unless you do a lot of traveling and play on your phone a lot to begin with.
Even still, after paying $180 a year, you have to pay more for "Premium Content". Who wants to pays $3.99 for a music video? Maybe Paris Hilton or other dumb rich people but for the Average Joe this is just too little for too much money. Not to mention that Verizon keeps the tabs on what's a premium service well hidden until after you try to grab something that looks interesting and get hit with an "Airtime Fees Apply" message.
$5 a month I'd consider a good deal but my book or newspaper still gets me through a long commute without the heavy pricetag. -
"A terrific product that needs fine tuning." on by Rick0204
Pros: excellent quality video, makes my commute on the bus a breeze, very cool on a cell phone.
Cons: Content needs to be improved, live TV should be available, coverage area needs to be expanded, network not as reliable as the call network.
Summary: This is a very exciting product. I was amazed at the clarity of the video on the small screen. The audio is also excellent and in stereo. The network reliability is not up to the level of the call network. Just this week I was unable to connect to VCAST for 2 days. I enjoy watching condensed versions of Lost and Desperate Housewives. I no longer watch Lost on regular TV. Comedy Central has condensed versions of The Daily Show which are all hilarious. All in all I am very please so far, except for the outages.

"V Cast Sucks Your Wallet" on by ak.kiet
Pros: Nothing special
Cons: Cost of service; cost per song, video; slow speed
Summary: Fifteen dollar monthly service to get songs at $2.00 each turns me away from this service.
