Take a closer look at Wink's new hub (pictures)
The $80 Wink Hub works with multiple protocols and brands, bringing accessibility and versatility to your connected home.
The Wink Hub costs $80.
It works in tandem with the Wink app, available on Google Play and the iTunes Store.
The hub can translate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Lutron Clear Connect, and Kidde protocols.
It works with Quirky products and a growing number of third-party brands.
A power cord connects to the back and plugs into a standard 120-volt outlet.
The built-in stand keeps the hub upright.
Put it somewhere with a solid Wi-Fi connection.
Download the Wink app and connect your hub to the local Wi-Fi.
A color-changing LED alerts you to the hub's status.
Select from a list of Wink-compatible products to add a new device to the app.
The app will walk you through the step-by-step pairing process.
Some of the products are easier to pair than others, making setup unpredictable.
Once paired, though, you can control many different products from a variety of connected companies -- all for a comparatively lower price than Wink's competition.
