The Team Ico Collection will feature the developer's first two groundbreaking PS2 endeavors, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, for a PS3 release in the spring of 2011. Both games will be remastered in HD and playable in 3D.
Game trailer: Team Ico Collection
Last week's Tokyo Game Show brought with it plenty of new-game announcements, but also a reminder that Sony is very much interested in selling backward compatibility to PS3 owners who don't have the means to play PS2 games. If you purchased a PS3 with an internal hard drive larger than 80GB (including all PS3 Slims), odds are your system is one of these unfortunate pieces of hardware.
We already saw last year's God of War Collection prepare gamers for God of War III and Sony has just revealed that the highly anticipated holiday 2011 release, The Last Guardian, will get the same treatment. The tentatively titled Team Ico Collection will feature the developer's first two groundbreaking PS2 endeavors, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, for a PS3 release in the spring of 2011. Both games will be remastered in HD and playable in 3D.
No official pricing yet on the Team Ico Collection, but we'd be surprised to see it go for more than the God of War Collection's reasonable $40 price tag.
We're curious if current owners of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus think HD remastering and 3D capabilities justify a second purchase of these two games. That said, gamers who haven't experienced these Team Ico games should absolutely jump at this opportunity to play two of the PS2's best titles. Sony will be releasing the entire Sly Cooper trilogy in 3D this fall as well for the PS3, so it's pretty clear that this trend will continue to grow.
