This game is extremely entertaining. The graphics of the game are breath-taking; whether it be CG or game play. The movements and attacks between Rachel and Ryo are extremely clear, you follow the "scroll" techniques, or upgrade your weapons for various new combos. The con for this however, is when you attack something, the "target" seems to be locked somewhere else and you'll end up flying elsewhere, leaving the target behind you. The only camera fixture you have is rotating the right analog stick, or pressing R1 for a behind camera; this actually screws you over like crazy because of the scenarios of narrow areas that you have to deal with later on. Extremely frustrating with the camera and the target, but other than that, this game is excellent to play. You can work with various weapons with Ryu in the midst of a battle just to try all the weapons.
Another simple aspect of this game that makes it a wonder; the item usage. All you need to do is select three items that you want to use in the midst of battle, and you'll see it in the left corner of your screen. To rotate, it's just pressing right or left on the D-pad, and to use, pressing down on the D-pad. Simple as pie. You can only carry 10 of each item, which can either be helpful depending on how good you are at blocking enemy attacks and dodging to save yourself the money on the potions.
As for weapons, you get the option of 3 different weapons: your main weapon, projectile, and your ninpo [magic]. Each one has it's own usage for designated spots on the game that helps you out significantly. You find scrolls from dead bodies lying variously around the locations, or in treasure chests.
Another aspect that I absolutely loved about this game while using Ryu, running across the walls. It just makes the game even more entertaining; you can run across and jump up to do a head slice move from above the ground killing the enemy instantly depending on how you upgraded and what weapon your using. You also reach different locations by running up a wall and doing a backward flip. Unfortunately, Rachel is a slow character to use and doesn't have that option; but her attack is devastating by no means. She's more of a "charge" character, rather than a free-hitter like Ryu which makes for challenging play.
Now, when it comes to Game Over, it varies from whether you want to start over by asking "Are you sure you want to abandon the path of the ninja?" or if you just want to continue. Not only does it get frustrating having to choose one or the other, when you verify to continue, it shows you the chapter screen again, having to read through the dialogue, then starting you back to the start point; SO SAVE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
All in all,
I haven't finished the game yet, but I know this game is extremely entertaining. Working with the various weapons, running around trying to figure out quests, it's challenging but yet extremely fun to play. Frustrating with the cameras, yes, but still worth the money and time to play just to reach the ending of the story to see what occurs. With all the other modes to play from Easy to Master, it's a game I would play over.
Another catch is, this game DOES NOT give you trophies; so if that's what your after, make sure you play this game just for your entertainment. -
