Pros: Spectacular unit seperate down firing speaker for base on its own amp. Cant beat this unit
Cons: No HD radio if you care, No DVD player once again if you care
Summary: THis unit is amazing the highs are crisp and clear and thanks to the seperate base speaker it has a very nice low base sound. Plays very lound if you need it to with little or no distortion. Very well built weights 12 pounds right out of the box you will be surprise. My BOSE radio wave went to my dad try it and you will know why.

Pros: Great sound and reception, plus a very good variety of controls and inputs with easy access
Cons: Easily fixed problems that the tech rep says are "frequent" ought to be in an errata sheet in the manual
Summary: I've had this unit for just over 3 weeks and I'm very pleased with it, however my "out-of-box-experience" was less than stellar. The radio reception is great even on the internal antenna in a room with relatively pooor reception, the sound is beautiful (compared to the boomboxes I've had prior to this), and the controls are easy to learn (the fact that the Bose WaveSystem only has a remote for the controls was big turn-off). However, the CD player appeared to be dead-on-arrival. After reading the manual twice and seeing no troubleshooting options to fix why the CD player was not accepting discs, I repackaged everything up and was going to have my wife drive it up to the main store for a replacement. When my wife called for an RMA number, the tech asked why and said "oh, that happens a lot in shipping--just hold the CD eject button in for 15 seconds to discharge the static buildup." Well that did the trick, but such a simple fix ought to be in the manual's troubleshooting section if it "happens a lot." No complaints other than that. Although I've not evaluated the iPod dock, it's got a dedicated input for that which recharges your iPod and also has an AUX input to hook up a Zen or other music player.
I'd recommend the Cambridge Soundworks over the Bose if you want control over treble/base and you don't want to have to worry about a lost or dead remote. I looked at the Polk i-Sonic which sounded great in the store, but high ambients prevented evaluation of the noise from the DVD player I'd read in other reviews--plus I saw it as $200 extra over the Cambridge Soundworks player since I just needed CD, not DVD. -

Pros: Unlike my Bose radio, I am able to adjust the bass and treble to my taste.
Cons: Alarm is clunky at best, very frustrating.
Summary: Bought this radio for my bedroom. The process to set the alarm is terrible. This radio only allows the user a few second between key strokes before it times out. Very frustrating. So much so I moved it to my guest room and sticking to my Bose for my bedside. If my guest need to get up at a certain time, I will set the Bose.

Summary: I've had the cambridge model "without the CD player" for 3 years now. There was an offer to try for 30 days free so I ordered one. At only two hundred dollars I could not resist the temptation to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Right out of the box the sound was comparable to the Bose which cost me more than twice that amount. It actually had more base than the bose because of the built in sub-woofer. I liked the fact that I could control the base and treble and the loudness of the thing was comparable to a juke box at a local bar. Since I have difficulty waking to alarms this was the perfect solution. You can set the snooze to the number of minutes you like. You can set the dual alarms independently of each other, one can turn on at a volume of say 22 and the other at 42 (for instant irreversible deafness). I've had the unit for more than two years now and am completely satisfied with it's performance, it only failed to wake me once. My fault of course, not the units. The unit sounds magnificent at any volume, but even when low the sound completely fills the room with rich base and crisp highs. Best of all I did not feel like I had been overcharged as was the case with my Bose. The cambridge was a real bargain for the money, a mere two hundred before they started "forcing" the i-dock on customers which I have no use for. If it were not for the uselless i-dock I would certainly have bought another one at the same price. Would I recomment it to a friend, most definitely. If you want exceptional sound without paying and arm and a leg, this is the way to go.
