  • "Totally unnecessary."

Pros You can cache stations on an iPod Touch, which is a million times easier to use than the Slacker player. Buy the service, forget their (junky) player.

Cons It's thick, clunky, has impossible controls (the wheel on the side and the weird volume switch -- try comparing that to touch-screen controls on your iPod and let me know ...)

Summary Slacker is a great internet radio station. I have Pandora premium as well and like them both actually. The Slacker player, however, isn't worth a dime, seeing as how they're practically giving away iPod Touch units now.) Want mine?

Pros No need for WIFI when using as portable player on the road,
Easy set up, interface & software are easy to use.
    Nice bright LCD
    Good battery life.
Easy set up and connection to WIFI.

Cons Sound quality is not good as my Iphone, got light Hiss at low volume.
    Touch strip is a joke.
The volume control could be in a better location.
    The player feels cheap.
Can?t seem to find the docking for G1.

Summary I got the first generation Slacker while looking for an inexpensive player that I could dock at home to replace FM radio, I live & work in the City and get a lot of static even with a decent FM radio antenna.
I?m a regular Pandora user before I discovered Slacker, using both apps with on Iphone while dock and connected to my home audio was great, but I hated the regular interruption when I get calls on my cell.
Comparing my FM radio (Static) & Slacker is no brainer, Slacker G1 is the clear winner, but I personally think that the Iphone or probably Ipod touch produced slightly fuller and clearer sound than my Slacker G1, specially at low volume, but for the price and the portability without needing a WIFI is a plus for Slacker G1.
For the price and portability, after using it for a week, I would recommend the player with minimal reservations. If you like playing Pandora and can?t afford the Logitech squeezebox, tired of playing the same playlist on your Itune, static from FM radio?..this one is for you, be an excellent slacker. Enjoy ! I wish it could play Video !
