"great idea, needs improvement"
Pros: portability, tablet style
Cons: short battery life, no speakers on dvd player itself.
Summary: I ran out to buy this Dvd Walkman the moment I first heard about it. I was happy to finally have a tablet- style portable dvd player that recharged and included a docking station. However, there are a few things that could use tweaking and I was surprised that a company such as Sony couldn't have seen what I think are obvious design flaws. Both headphone ports are on the left hand side of the player- Why isn't there one on each side? I was quickly irritated at having to fuss with my headphone cord when sharing the unit. Apparently the user on the right is meant to hold the unit- otherwise you need to get used to headphone cords in the way and difficulty in viewing the screen. The unit doesn't feel balanced when handheld and the controls are not intuitive or easy to use. The pop-out stand on the back of the unit seems flimsy and I will never use it for fear of damage to the LCD. The remote has very limited usefullness. I also wasn't expecting to be required to use headphones unless I used the base. There needs to be a speaker on the player itself. It seems like Sony tried too hard to remain true to its Walkman ideal and didn't take into account the evolving needs of its customers to have a functionally adaptive unit. Add a second battery- it will balance the unit and improve on the laughable three hour play time. I look forward to seeing an improved model that makes sense.
