Pros Can't say anything was positive about this purchase.
Cons My unit stopped working after a few months, so I returned it for a replacement. The replacement was non-functioning right out of the box. Altec Lansing has been asking repeated questions about the warranty period and how to reboot my ipod (my ipod is work
Summary Lesson learned. I will never buy this manufacturers products. Be forewarned!!!
Pros sound, built-in fm radio has excellent reception, remote control, surprisingly good stereo imaging for such a narrow instrument; spare "retro" design
Cons takes a long time to boot up, cycles through all modes at start up
Summary software engineering could use some help, but the venerable Altec Lansing reputation for great sound engineering lives on in miniature; an enormous value as these things go, compared to high end (B&W, Bose) units which hardly justify the cost differential purely on the basis of more attractive design
Pros This system comes with rechargeable batteries ( a nice feature when you have to toddlers who use batteries like water)
Cons If your ipods music file is not the best quality.....the speakers will reflect that
Summary This was an awesome gift. My friend has the portable Bose docking station...which sounds clear no matter what the quality of the music file but, cost way too much. So, if you have only shared media, you'll have to spend a little more money on your docking station. Otherwise, this one is awesome
Pros Great Sound Quality, small, portable, rechargeable battery. Great replacement for old style portable boomboxes
Cons Auto power off when connection not detected. Does not stay to docked if device is to be walked around with. No indicator to show unit is charging when powered off and pluged in.
Summary The product is great. I would keep this product if it did not have the auto shut off function. So when running on the battery and listening to Pandora, the device displayed "paused" and not recieving a detection/signal from the ipod/iphone. It will shut off in 5 minutes or so. Perhaps Altec Lansing has made a newer device. For just iPod users, this is great!
Pros Nice looking. Good sound quality. Battery is super. Can output a ton of sound for its size.
Cons Sound quality not as good as the IM600. Remote not secured in the "to-go"/folded up mode.
Summary I was a huge fan of the iM600. I enjoyed mine and gave several as gifts to people that were simply blown away by the surprising sound. Tragically, a recent mishap in the rain rendered mine useless. I have to admit that I was even a little bit excited to finally have my excuse to buy the latest & greatest version of a product I've enjoyed so much.
I remained excited right up until a few minutes after I turned it on. The sound is good, to be sure. However, the very rich and entirely unexpected depth of sound I had enjoyed for two years from my 600 just wasn't there. I discovered the ESS setting (accessible only on the remote) and thought "Aha, that's what's missing!" - but the improvement was almost indiscernible.
I really do like the improved look and the functions of the remote on the 620, but I think I'm actually going to turn it over to my 10 year old daughter and purchase another (now aging) iM600 USB while they're still available. I'm not an audiophile snob, but I do work from home and use the thing all day long in the background (with Slacker, Pandora or Rhapsody running on my iPod Touch) so, the quality of sound really does matter to me.
I so wanted this to be an upgrade (or even a draw), but at least for the sound quality, it really isn't. It's a very nice product and I think still a really good value compared to the competition, but the sound is a slight step-down from the IM600 it's intended to replace.
