"Impressive package with all the right features, none of the flaws"
Pros: Truly portable, remote included, seamless integration, cheaper than Bose, and looks sleek
Cons: Perhaps a bit wide but does anyone plan on carrying this on their shoulder a la old school boombox? Didn't think so
Summary: This system has everything that previous Ipod speakers may have lacked in one way or another. The bose sounddock is expensive at $300 and completely unportable with it's constant need to plug in, just like the JBL on stage. Furthermore, this unit has a remote which JBL is also missing. It allows pictures to be displayed in a seamless integration...and it outclasses previous inmotion speaker's with it's sound quality (according to James Kim at least) and the abiility to charge your ipod. What's not to like?

This "iPod boombox" generates excellent sound and looks really cool. I think it sounds just as good as the Bose SoundDock, at a lower price. But with any first generation model, there is always room for improvement. 1) This sucker is heavy! (and thats' without the eight D batteries) 2) The handle is a little funky at first, but you get used to it. 3) The cradle door has had its share of problems of not locking (well documented), but this method is much sturdier than the free stading connector as most of the other players have. My recommendation: if you don't need to move the IM7, just leave the cradle open. 4) The remote is a little hard to get out of its slot in the back. 5) A black model would be cool (but that is only cosmetic)
The pluses: 1) Sound is amazing even when it is really cranked up (which is obviously what we all are looking for in the end). 2) Portability (there is a mesh carrying case that is also available) 3) Video jacks for watching video on a TV. 4) Aux inputs, so you use any of those other audio devices (CD, Cassette, MD and other MP3 players)
I am surprised that Altec Lansing has not come out with an updated version of this. This probably why the prices have dropped. They have come out with variations, but those do not have the same appeal that the IM7 does.
So if you are looking for a small docking sound system for your iPod... I would highly recommend the IM7. Just don't open and close the cradle unless you have to. -
